Wedding Near a Holiday advice/discussion

__, on October 21, 2019 at 8:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
So my wedding will be the day before Thanksgiving next year and I was wondering if the rules of when to send save the dates and invitations changes because of that? On top of that, FH’s side of the family are all coming from out of town, so that’s more to think about. I know to send the save the dates and invites earlier because of OOT family, but does the holiday mean they should be sent even earlier than that? What do you all think and is there anyone else getting married near a holiday and is that changing the timing of anything for you for certain things?

I feel if you let them know early it’s better, especially since a lot of people travel for thanksgiving

I’ve been wondering this myself, as we are getting married Columbus Day weekend. I read an article that said to send STDs 6 months in advance but if you’re getting married on a holiday weekend, then to send 8 months in advance. I think we are going to split the difference and send them 7 months out.

    Hey Jacquelyn!

Since you are getting married on a holiday weekend and are inviting so many out of town guests, I would suggest sending your STDs out around 8 to 12 months in advance to give your guests notice. You can then send your actual invitations out about 2 to 3 months before your wedding so that people can make their travel arrangements.

Yes, send them out asap. most families plan Thanksgiving early. Also you're having it on a Wednesday which means they will need to plan to take vacation time atleast wednesday maybe even Tuesday

As others have said, you want them out ASAP. If you can do a full year, that's even better. When it comes to holidays, you don't just have to worry about people having it open, you have to consider traditions that folks might already have in their family such as travelling across the country to visit family, pre-Thanksgiving celebrations, etc.
