Ok what am I supposed to do here. I hate country music and my family hates country music and will be far away the dance floor if its playing but my fiancées family is “country folk” in his words. So i cant say no country music on my do botnplay list, but i dont want A LOT, like i dont want half the music or every other song to be country. How do i explain that to the DJ.

You can just tell him that you want your music list to be many different genres so not to make it based so much on just one genre. or you could even collect a playlist yourself and have the dj play it

Tell the DJ they can play a country song no more than once every 10 songs, and even then, the play list is restricted to old school, classic country like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. And, the first country song that clears the dance floor, will be the last country song of the night. A good DJ will self-moderate away from any genres that clear the dance floor anyway.

I like that, yeah I know they will read the crowd too, but you think every 10 songs isnt a bad compromise ?

Well, it's not like wedding guests usually get a direct say in the music played, other than their participation or lack on the dance floor communicating tacitly to the DJ. I wouldn't really worry about finding the perfect ratio. As long as you aren't outright banning any and all country music, you are doing your job as a host.

And by the way, I am totally with you and your family. Smiley laugh

You give him a limit on how many he can play. Most djs are receptive and will honor your wishes.

Just tell the DJ what you just said to us. He or she will respect your wishes.

Maybe just have the DJ play country whenever you and your FH are busy off taking pictures or cutting cake or mingling? If you want people to dance, and your guests love country, then I'd try to appease them where possible (while obviously including your favs for when you guys want to get down). Also, line dancing is great for social distancing!
