Wedding Music- Catholic Wedding

Johnanddanna, on October 4, 2019 at 10:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
I am working on the music for the wedding and I wanted to ask your opinions on something.
Is it in poor taste to play "Here comes the Bride" , at a Catholic Wedding?
I haven't been to many Catholic weddings to know.I am really torn and don't want to offend anyone, especially the church.
I value your opinions and want to do the right thing.
Have any of you heard this played at many catholic weddings?

I don't think that's poor taste because at the end of the day it is a wedding and that's very common

Some dioceses/priests will allow it, some won't as it's a secular piece of music. There are so many very beautiful non-secular pieces, though, that if you aren't able to use "Here Comes the Bride" you'll still have wonderful music!

The church has banned this song for many many years. I think it is up to the discretion of the diocese. This will be a full on traditional wedding with mass. I just don't want to offend anyone or appear to have made a bad decision in using it.

    Thank you, Pam.
This is a very tough decision for me..
My Priest said it was ok, but I still feel that I need to err on caution.

When I suggested it, my musicians just kind of balked at it and said that the Church doesn't use it, and there are tons of other options that are just as pretty or even more so.

I ended up going with Trumpet Voluntary.

I had a catholic wedding and that’s what I walked to. I didn’t think it was allowed and was surprised when they asked if that’s what i wanted? I didn’t know what else to pick

Since that’s not a church song I don’t believe it’s allowed to be played during mass. My church won’t allow it

I would ask your church how they feel about it. Some church “rules” have been loosened over the years so they may be flexible.

Canon in D is a beautiful alternative. Ate classical songs permitted?

Def ask your church. For me personally, I wouldn’t be offended. My church doesn’t allow it, but there are many beautiful classic songs to pick from. 🙂 If you feel uncomfortable, maybe look into a classic song alternative?

I'm Catholic, and every wedding I've ever been to plays, "Here Comes the Bride," even the ones that have been in Catholic churches. I would check with your particular church to see if it's okay.

I know at my church it is not allowed to be used, as it’s a secular song
