Wedding Makeup

Ivelisse, on May 17, 2019 at 2:04 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
My SIL is a makeup artist in New York, she does fashion week...VERY credible...she does beautiful work, and she's doing my hair and makeup for the wedding. I sent her a few photos of makeup ideas that I really like...mind you, I don't know much about makeup and don't really wear a whole lot, except mascara, blush, and lip gloss. I've never had makeup done on me before and would kind of like to have it done with the contouring and pretty looking eyeshadow combinations, not anything extreme though. Those pics I sent, she said that the makeup is pretty heavy and sent me a pic of her idea of Eva Mendez, but she looks like she hardly has any makeup on, kind of what I do regularly. She's more of the natural look, which is fine, but also with me, I'm not photogenic at all, and light colors (my dress is off white) drains the color from my face...how could I tell her that I would like something a little more than what she showed me without feeling like I'm discrediting her? I know she'll do great work, I just know having a bit more will make the pictures of me come out better.

I would just tell her you are wanting a more dramatic look for your wedding day.

Didn't even think of that...that is more subtle. Thank you!

No problem! I think it's normal to want to look special and different on your wedding day than you do on an every day basis so since you wear pretty minimal makeup day-to-day, I think it's totally normal to want something a little bit more dramatic on your special day. She will understand!

You could also ask her to do a makeup trial run with you? Maybe have her do the look she thinks would be best for you and see what you think. If you want a bolder look or more color, let her adjust that look into something more dramatic.

Definitely schedule a hair and makeup trial with her. You can work together to come up with your look. I think what happened is that she knows you and how you normally prefer a natural look (no makeup or very little) and that is why she suggested something that she knows is more in your comfort zone. Meet with her to try on different looks.

She should have no problem with that feedback. She’s a collaborative artist and you’re the client. I’m sure she’s used to taking input and executing it beautifully!

I would make sure that she knows and understands your current concern, the dress washing you out a bit. Then tell her that you want to ensure that your make-up really pops and gives you wonderful day of your wedding photos.
