Wedding makeup, get it done, do it yourself and fake lashes or not?

Marisa, on September 17, 2018 at 9:45 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 12
Anyone doing their own makeup for their wedding? And are you doing fake lashes or not? My mom and MiL keep saying I need to have it done for photos and to get fake lashes ... I do a great job with my own makeup and havnt ever worn fake lashes in my life. Do they really make that much of a difference? I barely wear any makeup and if I put anything more than natural on my fiancé asks why I have so much makeup on .. he’s used to seeing me with no makeup or just my B.B. cream with a tad of blush and prefers it natural. I’m thinking of just having my mom’s makeup artist do a test on me but at this point I’m opposed to having someone else do it and wear fake lashes. Her girl is $75 which is cheap for NJ. I still think that’s a waste of money though when I can do a good job myself.

I plan on doing my own makeup. I just plan on doing foundation and mascara since I rarely wear makeup

I am totally the same--usually just a light layer of foundation and some blush. I pondered this exact same thing and I bought "waterproof" mascara but the more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards false eyelashes. They won't make me look like a racoon if I cry (which I WILL!), it's easy to just take them off at the end of the night without the mess and fuss, and I think they'll look fuller than mascara. There's several types to choose from-you can pick some "thinner" ones out if you're worried about them looking a little too bold or too much. I think they will be a better choice than mascara just for the pain in the butt factor alone, just my two cents Smiley smile

I want to get my makeup done professionally.. I'm not that great with makeup and don't want to chance it. I feel like it's one day I want to try and look my best for my FH! I have never personally used fake lashes but I keep reading its great for pictures. You could try and do a before and after photo and see if you like how it looks? If I could do my makeup for my wedding, I would but I know I'd fail! But, if you know you can do it, go for it! Especially if you don't want your makeup over done and want it more natural!

I’m splurging on getting my makeup and hair done. I’m not the best at it, and I want my makeup and hair on point that day without any stress. I was against false eyelashes but when I tried them, I noticed the huge difference and what the pictures would captured.

That’s me though Smiley smile you do what is most comfortable for you!

I’ve wore makeup for years and I’m great at it not to sound cocky lol. But I’m leaning more towards getting it done just because that’s one thing I don’t want to have to stress about if I’m so nervous I keep messing up. I wear fake lashes for bigger events. They’re more full and stand out in pictures. They’re beautiful and painless. If you’re doing it yourself and choose to use them I recommend adhesive that comes in a bottle with a brush in it. It’s so easy. However recently I dabbled with lack adhesive which turned out amazing, but I can only find that in a tube. Lol

I do my makeup everyday, and while I’m fairly good and know what I like, I am positive that I do not want to do my makeup on the day of my wedding. I have hired a hair and makeup artist to help me get ready the morning of. The way I see it, I'm spending thousands on photography and videography and I want to look my absolute best. I’m going to have them do a more natural look, as I don’t usually wear too much makeup. But I definitely want false lashes! I don’t wear them often, just a few times ever, but they definitely look nice in wedding photos when done right.
I don’t trust myself to be doing my own makeup the morning of. I’m going to be so nervous that I’m shaking, so knowing my luck I’d probably poke my eye out with my mascara 😂 or I’ll forget like 10 things I need and my makeup will end up melting off my face an hour into the day. Not taking any chances!!

If you want your photos to pop, unfortunately you will need heavier makeup than normal. Photo makeup is kinda like stage makeup: it doesnt look great up close, but looks amazing in photos. My profile pict is an engagement photo....and Im wearing a ridiuclous amount of makeup in it. I looked like a drag queen up close....but the photos all look stunning! Now, to still look like 'you' in person, you want in between stage makeup and every day makeup. Regarding fake lashes, they really really really do make your eyes look amaaaaaaazing. Instead of the glue on kind (lets face it, those are evil) look into a good set of magnetic lashes. I ordered a set and am currently waiting for them to arrive. There are lots out there. I ordered mine through a site I found on Facebook called Silly George. Their magnetic lashes have killer good reviews and the selfies posted by actual users are gorgeous! I think mine were like $17 and are 100% re-usable.

I dont wear much makeup in general, (mascara and nude tone eyeshadow...thats it!) but I will be having a professional do my hair and makeup for my wedding. I am having my usual goddess of a hair stylist do my hair, and she is bringing her friend who is a makeup artist who specializes in the more natural look.

If you do decide to go with a professional, be sure to have lots of hair and makeup photos for inspiration! The more photos you have on hand, the better an artist/stylist can get a good feel for what your ideal look is.

I would do fake lashes FOR SURE. They look so much better in pictures. I would put makeup on too, even if you do it yourself. I'd do trials at home with you doing it, to make sure you like it!

I definitely think that fake lashes make a huge difference, whether you're doing your own makeup or not. They make your eyes look better for photos.

I had 2 failed trials and decided to do my own makeup. I bought a bunch of different types of lashes and practiced A LOT. I wanted to be so good at putting them on that by the time the wedding day came I'd just pop em on like a pro.

I'm so glad I did my own makeup and also really glad I practiced so much with the lashes.

If you're concerned with the lashes being too dramatic they make so many different kinds. Ardell makes a really good natural looking one I ended up choosing for the day. I got it at Sallly Beauty. (Couldn't find that specific one elsewhere)

I've just bought a pair of magnetic eyelashes... darn things are awful and don't see long/large enough for my eyes... I haven't had any sucess with them and look like a drag queen when I tried... I couldn't get them close enough to my lash line... I'll try again another day.

One of my BMs is also a MUA, so I asked her to do my make up (I know you are not supposed to ask friendors, but I get weird with strangers touching my face and she loves to do it and has done my make up countless times for nights out and I like the way she does it). If I didn't have her, I would have hired someone, but I'm not good at doing make up. I tried out fake eyelashes in my make up trial with her. I hated them and didn't use them for the wedding and I think it was fine. I'm weird about eye make up in general (I hate stuff near my eyes) and they felt uncomfortable and I just didn't feel natural. In this case, do what makes you happy. You will still look great in pictures. I think it's best to look natural (the way you normally look) on your wedding day, so don't be influenced by others. Good luck!

I do my makeup pretty regularly with foundation, contouring, etc and even did my friend's makeup for her wedding. However, I never planned on doing my own. It's just too stressful to me, but that's just me. As for false lashes, I opted to do individual lashes because I'm a huge crier. the makeup artist was able to find the best solution for me (I tested how much makeup would run by watching a sappy movie after the trial lol). I would recommend it, but at the end of the day, you need to do what makes you most comfortable in your skin.
