Even for those with great makeup skills, I would recommend having your makeup done by a professional if it's within your budget. They will have better knowledge of products that will last all day and what photographs best.

I found our MUA by word of mouth, but you could also try the vendors tab here on WeddingWire or social media. I already knew that I liked her work because she's done several of my friends weddings, but her reviews and photos are great as well. We paid a deposit and booked her and I will do a trial closer to the wedding when I have a better idea of what I want. If you find someone you like, you can always schedule a trial with them before making a commitment.

I found my makeup artist through family friends. I would recommend professionals because they know what will look good in photos. It may seem over done but will look perfect in your professional photos. Especially if you are a summer bride and you expect to take photos outside in the heat and/or humidity the pros have great products for making sure your look stays in place.

Also I'm doing my trial on the day of my bridal shower to make sure it can hold up with all the hugging and the heat in July.

I’m a bit on a budget but I’m lucky to have a younger sister who is very skilled in make up so that is my plan to use. I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all to have friends or siblings do your make up and hair, it’s more intimate and makes everyone feel more included in the special day!

I never wear makeup so I opted for a professional because I don't know what I'm doing outside of throwing on some mascara. My normal hair dresser does event make up, so I am opting for her to do my hair and makeup for the wedding. I will have a makeup trial just because I want to make sure it isn't too heavy (I've seen people not look like themselves, and I don't want that). My MOH set up the trial appointment for the day of my bachelorette party so that the make up us "put to use" lol and the bachelorette date and everything is a surprise.

I’m going to do my own makeup. I have sooooo much makeup and I’m constantly testing and trying new products and techniques. I have an idea of the look I want, so I plan to practice that look at least once or twice a week beginning two months before the wedding. I’m gonna do flash tests, hot weather tests, 12+ hour wear tests, etc. until I find what techniques and products works best. I’m pretty skilled with makeup, so I feel confident in my decision. My bridesmaids and I are all doing our own hair and makeup. There’s some mad skills between the six of us, so we’d rather save that money for something else in our budget. In the end, it really just depends on what your budget is like and how confident you feel in doing it yourself or having someone close to you do it.

Hire a professional if you can afford it and don’t want to stress over it. Definitely set up a trial or two at least a month before your big day if you do decide to hire someone. Make sure you tell them what skin type you are: dry, combination, oily, sensitive, etc. Have a type of look in mind that you would like. Also, don’t drastically change up your skincare routine around the one month mark. Keep that consistent in the final month. 😄

By the way... we were almost date twins! My FH and I originally decided on Oct 19th of this year, but had to change it to the 9th (which is a Wednesday) because the venue we fell in love with is booked solid every weekend for the next two years! 😳😳 We decided to say screw it and chance a Wednesday wedding, because we love our venue that much... hope we have a good turn out! Lol. 🤞 Anyway, well wishes to you and I hope your big day is everything you’ve dreamed of and more. 💕

I only wear basic make up when I go out, and nothing on when I am at work. So, I can say I really don't know make up well enough to do it on my own for the wedding. That is a disaster waiting to happen! And I am even worse when it comes to hair! Hiring a HMUA is a must for me.

It wasn't an option for me, I'm nowhere near as good as a professional so I knew I'd hire someone. I did two trials before booking, it cost me $100 per trial but was worth it since I'm more picky about my makeup!

It would be nice to not have to worry about doing it myself, I am a little scared that a professional would maybe do too much make up which i don't normally wear. I want to do trials but idk if i could afford $100 a peice.

I am having my makeup done because I don't normally wear a lot of makeup so I wouldn't even know where to start doing my own. I found my makeup artist through instagram and had to go through 2 different trials. I tried one artist first but didn't really like the makeup and the second artist I went to I fell in love with it. Just make sure you are happy with who you choose and don't be afraid to do multiple trials.
