If they are required to have professional HMU, you should pay for it. If it’s optional, I’d just let them know the costs and go off the artist you prefer.

If you are requiring your bridal party to have professional makeup done, then it is your responsibility to pay for each girl’s makeup services. If you are NOT requiring their makeup be done, then I would choose whichever MUA you want and just let them know that they can choose to: A) have their makeup done by the artist you chose and it will cost X amount B) have their makeup done by someone of their choosing or C) do their own makeup

I didn't require anyone to get makeup, so I just sent a text and said the makeup artist I'm booking is this much, please let me know who wants makeup by her as it is required that I give her a head count for the contract. Then each bridesmaid told me if they were going to go with her or do something else. I think only one is getting her makeup done by someone else and it's because she and her husband are both in our wedding, she has a young daughter and the day is going to be a juggle for them with her because they need care from morning to night.

I just asked all of mine (and the moms) who wanted hair and/or makeup. It was only a few people, so I'm treating them and paying for it myself.

I would say how much it is. You never know. Sometimes people can be dense and blow it. If it was me I would want to know so I wouldn't ruin her day

Do keep in mind that when you book your MUA they may need to know how many clients at the time of booking and/or may have a minimum dollar amount required for travel (if you want to have your hair and makeup done on site at your venue). So sometimes there is a little back and forth to decide who might be interested, what the cost would be, and then who is actually going to go through with it. You do NOT want to be on the hook for paying your MUA to come to your venue to do your makeup thinking that 3-4 other people are going to have theirs done too and then have them all bail and realize you are on the hook for $500+ just to have your own makeup done.
