How did you pick where to have your wedding? Was your fiance raised nearby or somewhere completely different? Was it a difficult decision? Did you decide to travel somewhere exotic or tropical? Married ladies and gents- do you have any advice for choosing a wedding location?

We are getting married in our hometown. I refused to not have my parents and the kids involved. But sometimes I do want to go elsewhere!

    Getting married in my hometown.

FH and I currently live about 12 hours away from my hometown. FH is from a small town about 2 hours from where we are now, about 11 hours from where the wedding will be. A good portion of our guest list will have to travel, so I guess it's sort of a destination wedding, just with a not so special destination!

We're going the DW wedding route. This is a second wedding for me and a first for him. We discussed in advance if everyone on our VIP list couldn't attend if we'd still want to get married on a beach and when the answer was yes, it all came together!

I live in Northern CT but we have friends and family from all different parts of the state. So we chose a venue that's in the central part of the state. FH's family is either from Boston or SC so no matter we had it they would have to travel.

We got married in my hometown, which is 5 hours away from where we currently live and all of DH's family live. We kinda had to get married in my hometown since my parents paid for 90% of the wedding and they wanted to do it there.

We called it a "semi-destination wedding". Since most people had to travel to our wedding, it was a destination, but since it wasn't Mexico or the Caribbean-not a very cool destination wedding.

The wedding also ended up being a lot less expensive in my hometown as opposed to if we had gotten married in the city we live in.

It was never up for discussion with us. We both were born and raised here and both of out families are within 45 minutes of us. They have a lot of options here, for very expensive weddings to cheap, budget weddings.

We are getting married at the Publick House in Sturbridge MA. It was almost an hour from our house. Now we live 10 mins from it :-)

When we first started looking at venues this was on our wish list. FH's family used to go there every year for mothers day with his mother and grandmother. We never thought we could afford it. We decided to ask for a proposal anyways just to see how much over budget we'd be. Well we got a price and it was way under what we expected & included so much! There was no doubt in our mind This was where we were getting married.
