Wedding location/ city same as friend’s wedding previously

Chelsea, on December 18, 2019 at 10:38 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
We’re thinking about moving our wedding location to New Orleans where our friends were married several years ago. We’re going for a pretty low-maintenance, easy going vibe and they did something very similar - small ceremony then very casual reception at a restaurant then bar hopped.

My thoughts are that I don’t want our wedding to be too similar to theirs, or to look like we copied them. I know that might sound silly but it’s on my mind. Has anyone else gone through something like this?

If it's just the same part of town, I can say let those worries go! Many people who grow up in the same town get married in that same town and no one is getting confused about who's wedding it was! If it is the same venue, I feel the same rule applies - there are so many wedding venues out there that have 75+ weddings a year in the same location and no two are alike!

If this is a close friend, maybe you attended their wedding, you can use that (or any wedding pictures they have on social media or shared with you) for a reference just to ease your mind around things being different. Overall, I would say come up with your dream wedding and no one will be focusing on anything except y'all on your big day!

Yes but the city does not make it the same. Nor does the venue. It is how you do it and make it your own. Smiley smile I know a few friends that all got married in the same venue but the style of wedding was different.

Honestly weddings now a days just have so many things in common so i dont feel like you are ever going to see one truly entirely unique wedding. but with that being said, it is your celebration and it is made to be fit for you and your spouse so even if there were things you want that are similar, i dont think anyone would think its being a copy cat

You guys won't have identical weddings! i wouldn't worry about it. i stressed a little over something similar. my cousin had her wedding at a nice resort in Tennessee with cabins and such. i felt bad because its exactly what i wanted and i did it almost a year to the date in PA - but she didn't complain at all! i even used her wine blending ceremony lol and the exact same wine.

this will be about your and your FH. no matter if it is similar it will be different. its YOUR day. do what makes you happy Smiley smile

Doing something similar only shows how impressed you were with their choices. I would be honored if a friend followed a did something similar

Naw. Unless you choose the same venue, same colors & same style I don’t think it’ll look anywhere the same.
