Wedding Jewelry - Materials?

Tiger Bride, on January 2, 2021 at 8:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Going to preface this by saying I don't know a ton about jewelry, other than rings. I am looking at a pair of earrings to wear at my wedding - cubic zirconia and freshwater pearl (they are about $30 on Etsy, which seemed kind of low?). I've heard CZ tends to get cloudy over time, and I am not sure how long a $30 pair of earrings will last, but part of me would like to be able to pull them out and wear them every now and then and maybe give them to a future daughter for her bridal shower or something similar.

What did all y'all wear for your weddings? Did you splurge for gemstones or did you wear costume jewelry?

Since I wanted something more fancy I went cheap because I was not planning on wearing them much again. I will say go to a cheap jewelry kiosk in the mall for something with better quality if you want to wear again. I honestly do not notice cloudiness and stuff lol. I got my earrings from david's bridal.

I wore a pair of earrings that belonged to my grandmother that my mother gave me. CZs can look very pretty, but the likelihood that they will still look good generations from now is not a guarantee.

I wore diamond studs (I never take them out) and pearl studs, a pearl bracelet (it has the cutest little charm on that says "I am loved"), and a silver locket so that my dad could "walk me down the aisle."

I've heard of Swarovski jewelry! I will have to see if they make any in clips (forgot to mention my ears are not pierced, which complicates things)

This is my concern, too. My ering is moissanite so I'd love to get earrings with moissy, but the style I was looking at is hard to find.

I don’t know about CZ. But I got a Pandora necklace for Christmas and it has a crystal in it and it is super shiny! And as far as I know the crystal won’t get cloudy, but ive only had it a week.
I personal wore earrings my mom had made with My great grandmothers diamonds. They were my something borrowed.

Very rarely do future generations actually wear old jewelry that has been passed down. Unless you wear alot of fancy jewelry dressing up on the regular, go with something inexpensive.

Check on etsy who sells earrings with swarovski rhinestone. I prefer rhodium plated, platinum or gold, because other material needs to be “maintained, such as re-coating. Or buy cheap ones for only temporary use.

I did not spend a lot. Paid about $15 for nickle free tiny gold stud earings from a local business. Then paid $40 for an opal necklace on etsy.

I got this beautiful pearl set on sale from Zales for $199 as a valentines day gift from my hubby and wore this on my wedding day. I love pearls and it's my June birth stone.

If you want to stay budget friendly, check out Amazon or Ross, they have beautiful jewelry. I get my stud earrings from Amazon.

CZ looks very pretty and sparkly but is unlikely to last long enough to pass down. You also want to consider the material of the metal if any....that is often the first to start looking rusty or bad.

I would try searching for moissanite jewelry. It won't be as cheap as CZ but much cheaper than diamonds, and almost as strong/long lasting.

Update: in case anyone has ever heard of the brand Dareth Colburn, that is who makes the earrings I'm looking at. I feel like I've heard that name mentioned here before, but I don't remember.
