Wedding is 3 weeks away and my dress is a disaster :(

colleen, on September 28, 2018 at 10:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I had my third dress fitting and the seamstress at this bridal salon cut out a huge chunk of the left bust. I don't even know how they're going to fix this and I'm freaking out now. She said it looked even on the mannequin and that she will fix it, but I don't even know how that's possible. The whole top looks wonky. It's the first thing I noticed when I was looking in the mirror. I'm going back in a week, but I'm so mad that it looks so destroyed now. Has anyone had something like this happen to them? What did the bridal salon do? Has anyone ever heard of getting a full refund on a dress they sort of ruined? What would you do?

Oh man, I'm so sorry this has happened. I haven't had to deal with anything like this. But I'd imagine if she couldn't fix it after being the one to mess it up that she would give you your money back. I would make a fuss about it though, to make sure you get what you want.

Oh goodness, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. If she can’t fix it she absolutely needs to 100% refund you and/or offer you a replacement dress.

To be honest, I didn’t notice it at all until I looked back and read what you said. I think at the end of the day, with all the moving around you’re going to be doing the dress isn’t going to always sit perfect once your body gets moving. I think the dress looks stunning on you! Who did the alterations? Was it someone at the bridal shop? I went to a Vietnamese lady whose been doing bridal alterations for 27 years. Found here on google. It cost me $200 but she was brilliant. If it really bothers you I would look into to going to someone you know is going to be great (look at their reviews online) and see how much they would charge & if it is fixable. I couldn’t tell, I just saw the picture & thought wow what a perfect dress!

I think you're the only one who will see the difference. I had to really look and look to see a tiny difference.
But, you are the one who knows exactly what your dress should look and you have to wear it.
    It's an absolutely beautiful dress!!!

    I'm not seeing it?
Do you mean the lace ruffle bit? They can probably pull it up more or get that piece rushed delivered or put all new lace right there.
    Either way it isnt noticable.
I still dont see it I'm getting stressed looking for something wrong. 😬🙈

I’m not sure I see which piece you’re talking about? The dress looks beautiful on you! I would definitely make it known to them that your expectations aren’t met. If need be, you can take it to someone who has good reviews. It would be worth it to feel happy with your dress again.

Your dress is not ruined! Dont be dramatic overly something so materialistic. It looks fine actually and I'm super critical. But your seamstress should be able to fix it. I think it make look uneven due to the lace pattern.

Bottom line is, whether or not others can tell if it's off, if YOU CAN and YOUR'E NOT HAPPY, they should be doing everything in their power to fix it. Just like every other vendor, they are providing you with a service to make your day perfect. After you spent what I assume is a good chunk of change on a dress you'll only wear once, you want it to be everything you imagined. So have a talk with your shop/seamstress/whoever and express your concern. FIRMLY. They should be doing everything HUMANLY POSSIBLE to make sure their brides are happy. If their brides aren't happy, then they're not doing what they were hired to do.

A friend of mine a few years ago had a similar situation. She put the dress on after her alterations and the neckline (which was supposed to be sweetheart) was cut STRAIGHT across. And sure, it didn't look "bad," but it wasn't what she asked for, it wasn't what she had paid for, and it was something she knew would bother her all night. She was firm with the shop and the alterations department. Explained the concern and the timeline. Long story short, she got what she had wanted, and quickly enough. So express your concern! If it's going to bother you, it's worth fixing!

I agree with everyone else, I didn’t see it until you said it. And even after you said it, the difference is not that big. I don’t think people will notice it. I would still try to see if she doesn’t charge you for the alterations since she made that mistake. Honestly the dress is gorgeous! It’s just like the one I want Smiley smile

Thanks!! I know everyone is saying they don't notice it, but I notice it and now it's all I can see. I don't want to look back at my pictures and be so distracted about it not being symmetrical.
