What’s a reasonable price to pay for invitations?

It all depends, everyone has different budgets. I spent about $1/invitation and $0.75/ save the date. Some people can spend upwards of $3, $4/each with fancy invitations.

This is completely dependent on your finances, your budget and your priorities. Invitations can be found in a wide price range depending on the paper or card stock you use, the printing method, enclosures, whether you DIY or hire a calligrapher, go completely custom etc. Some will tell you it’s silly to spend money on something that will just be thrown away while others feel the invitation conveys a first impression and sets tone and formality.

Invitations and other stationery are where I chose to be more cost effective. My wedding is small with a guest list of less than 90 people so I knew immediately I wanted to splurge on other things such as the catering and the DJ (good music is important to us). All in, save the dates and wedding invites cost us about $350. We kept both items very simple, elegant but made sure everyone had the information they needed. I agree that invites are a personal decision but explore all options to figure out what is right for you.

Exactly this. I would suggest first deciding how important invitations are to you. For some people they are just seen as a means of conveying information to guests, so they go as cheap as possible. For others, invitations are seen as an important "first impression" of the wedding that conveys the vibe and formality of the event. How you value their importance will determine whether you want to skrimp or splurge (or somewhere in between). I like to point something out when brides are contemplating invitations, because it's something I'm glad I thought of before we ordered our invites... will you be doing details photos with your invites (like pictured below)? Or do you plan on displaying them in your home (framing/hanging, adding to your photo book, etc.)? If so, you will want to ensure you love them!
