Wedding Invitations

Tasha, on May 23, 2021 at 2:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hello,
My wedding is in September and I can’t decide if I should do save the date by mail or virtually. Or if I should just send the formal invites out early.
Do anyone know where I can find beautiful inexpensive invitations?

Vistaprint and Shutterfly have reasonably inexpensive invitations (and save the dates) in a range of styles - since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I can't tell you if you'll think they're beautiful. Save the dates are entirely optional, so you don't need to send them at all, and you don't need to send your invitations early regardless. I do recommend you send save the dates if you have a lot of people who have to travel, but otherwise, you're probably good to forego them entirely if you want.

Save the dates traditionally were done over the phone. It’s only in the last few years that they have become popular as postcards. I would send a postcard or magnet anyway over an evite because people change their physical addresses less often than email addresses. Also not everyone is internet savvy and some people don’t check email that often outside of work. If it is from someone you don’t communicate with on a regular basis, it often gets diverted to the spam folder and they would never know you tried to reach them.

Get on the phone immediately and call people to set the date aside. If you don’t, then they will have their calendar booked with other events and unable to attend yours.

Do.not. send invites before 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding because the information will be lost and forgotten if you do.

You can find full sets of invites at Costco.com or annsbridalbargains.com for pennies or go with individual pieces (including envelopes separate) at Zazzle.com

Your wedding is in September, so your invitations will go out in what, July? I think STDs would be a waste of money at this point since you don't even have them yet, so by the time you get them and send them out, it would be into June. Just not worth it this far in, IMO.

Do you have a wedding website? Maybe just post the link to that on fb or something so people can see what the date is now. Then just send the formal invitations at the full 8 week mark.

At this point, I wouldn’t do STDs, since you should be sending invites in July. I got an invitation suite template from Etsy, and we printed them at a shop on 100lb paper. Saved us a ton of money!

Why wouldn’t you send save the dates now? Call people if you don’t think they will get postcards in time. But people do need advance notice ASAP so they don’t schedule something else instead and aren’t able to attend your wedding. With things starting to open up, people are scheduling more things for the second half of the year. And you don’t want to be an afterthought because you chose not to contact anyone.

I got our save the dates from Walmart. They were simple, but what I wanted and very inexpensive.

I got my invitations from Zazzle, and I was really happy with them! They have a nice selection of budget invitations that are like 50 cents to a dollar, and you can customize whatever you want. I ended up buying nicer invitations and and waited for a 50% off sale, so they were like $1 each. I agree with others that sending save the dates at this point doesn’t seem worth it. Good luck!
