Wedding Invitations

Sue, on March 20, 2024 at 8:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

I received an invitation to a wedding but only my name was on it. However, it asked for the number attending on the RSVP. This wedding is for a friend of our family. My son was planning to travel home from 3 states away for the wedding. Is it proper for me to assume he is invited too. It is just my son and me in our family.

No I would contact the wedding couple and ask if he is indeed invited too. Etiquette says that only the people named on the envelope are invited to the wedding.

If your son is an adult, is it possible they sent him his own separate invite?

Thank you, I thought that the etiquette was only the one on the invitation. My son did not receive one, although, since he lives out of state they thought it would be an inconvenience for him to come. Thank you for your comments and confirming what I had thought.

Invitations are for those specifically named on the invitation. The # attending was, I would imagine, printed on all the reply cards but would only apply to those actually invited as a couple or family. That is, as you saw, confusing because it opens them up to people adding uninvited guests.

Unfortunately, there are lots of uninformed people when it comes to invitation protocol. I think the way this was done you’re on solid ground to say you assume the invitation was meant for you but wanted to be sure because of that extra line.

Thank you for your input. This is what I assumed, but just wanted to make sure.
