Wedding invitations

Hi all,

I'm working on our wedding invitations and I want you girls opinions on the wording! Just for context we are paying for the wedding so no other names will be on it but ours and our wedding is formal. It starts out like this "we request the honor of your presence to share in the joy" and then the next line is "the wedding of..."
Something seems off to me in the first line even though we like the words, any suggestions? Or is it fine how it is?

What about share in our joy instead of the joy?

It should read as 1 full sentence, so I would cut the "the joy" and just have "we request the honor of your presence to share in" "the wedding of..."

    Hannah is on point!
This is the verbiage we’re using - we’re paying for everything too.

I agree with pps that you need to work on aligning things so you are consistently using either first person (we, our) or third person (the wedding of). It sounds like you want first person (we're inviting you...); if so, Michelle's suggestion with "We invite you...as we, Ashley Jones and Mike Smith...." is a consistent (but also less formal). You can change the exact verbiage to whatever you want, but stay consistent. Third person would be more formal/traditional, "The honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of Ashley Jones and Michael Smith...." or "Ashley Jones and Michael Smith request the honor of your presence at...."

Emily Post lists two wording options for formal wedding invitations hosted by the bride and groom:

Ms. [Miss] Andrea Jane Brigante and Mr. Robert Holden White request the honour of your presence at their marriage Saturday, the tenth of July two thousand seventeen at half after four o'clock First Congregational Church Richmond, Virginia

The honour of your presence is requested at the marriage of Ms. [Miss] Andrea Jane Brigante to Mr. Robert Holden White Saturday, the tenth of July two thousand seventeen at half after four o'clock First Congregational Church Richmond, Virginia

Do either of these work for you?
