Wedding Invitations - Cash Bar

Charlotte, on November 6, 2019 at 5:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
My venue offers various options for bar service. One option is we get the bill at the end of the night (which could be a surprise and potentially a lot); we purchase a package of beer, wine, and liquor if we choose and pay for every guest over 21; or we set a dollar amount that we want to spend and after that it's a cash bar.

We're leaning more towards the last option that way we won't be left with any surprises at the end of the night. Plus, a lot of family aren't big drinkers. That being said would you include that in your invitation or on your wedding website somewhere? I feel like we should somehow let our guests know that they could potentially have to pay for their drinks. We can't really say cash bar after this time because who knows when our limit will be reached.

Should I let guests know at all?? I would think they would want a heads up so they know to bring cash

I wouldn’t put it on the invitations, but you could add it to your wedding website.

I would put it on your wedding website! On ours we had a page for "FAQs" and put something along the lines of:

Q: Will there be drinks provided?

A: Yes! We will have soda, water, coffee and tea. There is also a bar available for guests to purchase alcohol.

Yours could say something like: and drinks will be provided, however when the limit is reached it will turn into a cash bar.

We put something like Brianna did on our FAQs.
    Q: Will there be alcohol?
A: Yes! Well kind of. We will have an open bar with been wine and soda. Any hard liquor will be available for purchase at the hotel bar.

I wouldn't put it on your invitation, but the website sounds fair in the FAQs. My guests didn't look at ours, though they were mostly older......

I think the second option sounds fair. You're still providing alcohol, just not all the alcohol in the world.
