Wedding Invitation Wording *already Married*

Amberly, on July 17, 2019 at 9:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Long story short, my husband and I got legally married March 2018, but we’re just having our ceremony for it this October.

I’m putting together my formal invitations and have mixed decisions on how my name should be.

Should I have my new married last name or my Maiden name? I’ve asked some family/friends and they have split opinions.

Side note: my invitation will be worded something like “bride & groom invite you to celebrate their marriage”

I would use your married name since, well, that’s your name. I also wouldn’t use the terms bride or groom since you aren’t a bride and your husband isn’t a groom. Maybe “the happy couple.”

I'd probably skip some of the formality and just say FirstName & FirstName LastName

This would be considered a "Celebration of Marriage" and you should use your married name if you changed your name. Your guests should know that you are already married so using your maiden name when you no longer do so would be deceiving. I agree with Caytlyn that you are no longer "bride and groom" so I would not use those terms.

I was in the same boat, as my husband and I got legally married in Nov 2018, and our wedding is this Nov (on our 1 year anni). I chose to use my maiden name as not everyone knew about our courthouse marriage, but honestly I would have rather put my married name (as I AM married)

You could do first names! Honestly I wish I just did first names, it looks so long with our last names.

A lot of women don’t change their last name or they don’t do it asap. If you changed your name already, then you should use your new, married name.
