Wedding Invitation Help? Sos!

Meghan, on January 26, 2021 at 12:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hello friends! I am starting to research where to buy invitations and realized a lot of them say "together with their families, John Smith and Jane Doe invite you to their wedding..." however I know that traditionally when the bride's parents host it should say "Mr. and Mrs. Doe request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Jane Doe to John Smith". So now, my fiancé and I are paying for 35% of the wedding, parents of the bride are contributing 64% and parents of the groom are contributing about 1% to the wedding. It personally does not matter to ME how the invitation is worded, however my parents think it should be worded more traditionally since they are technically hosting. Is it hurtful or offensive to have the traditional wording?

Since both you and FH‘s parents are contributing (the amounts do not have to be equal), typically the “Together with their parents...” wording would be chosen.

I agree with Chyrsta. Both parents are contributing, so "Together with their parents..." works best.

It's up to you Meghan! Both the "together with their families" wording and just listing your parents names would be appropriate here since they're paying for the bulk of the wedding!

I agree with them! Even though the parents of the groom are contributing less, they are still contributing! Plus, you’re contributing as well, hence the “together” Smiley smile
