Some venues will require it. Is it mentioned in your contract?

It was required for me. But I really didn’t mind spending $200 to protect thousands of dollars.

We were required to have it for our venue. Some of our vendors like dj were also asking to see a copy of our insurance for the wedding. Even if it’s not required it’s a good idea to get better safe than sorry, and you don’t want to start off your marriage with a debt or lawsuit in case something really goes wrong.

None of my vendors required us to have it so we didn't get it and all worked out well for us.

If you're spending a small amount that you could afford to lose, I'd say it's probably not necessary unless required. However, if you're spending tens of thousands of dollars, I'd get it just for the peace of mind that you're protected in case anything goes wrong.
