Wedding Insurance Questions

Chelsea, on August 20, 2020 at 1:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi!

I'm getting married next summer, which is great, but also sucks as most insurance companies are not offering event insurance with COVID-19 in mind. Anybody having luck with this? I found a few that are offering liability but not cancellation/postponement policies.

Similarly, do I have the insurance with me or the venue as the named insured? I've seen some conflicting information on this.

Say thanks to Covid as no wedding insurer is offering these right now. It obviously cost too much this year.

Insurance will be in your names.

Wedding insurance is coverage you have up to 1 million in case you or guests damage physical property at the venue... it was never meant for things like covid. (LIABILITY)

A standard event cancellation insurance policy typically covers cancellation due to events beyond your control. That usually means an act of God or other circumstance that damages a scheduled venue. (think: TORNADO, HURRICANE, FLOOD) covid has not damaged the building... so unless you all found a clause that says otherwise, wedding insurance never covers sickness

I am not looking for insurance to cover sickness. However, I am looking for ones that cover cancellation/postponement for the circumstances you mention.

Unfortunately, many policies are dropping that add-on coverage due to COVID. Not from the sickness, but because the social influence of COVID-19 has increased the number of couples wishing to cancel/postpone.

Yes. I studied technical writing, so I'm all about some clauses!

It's just frustrating. For example, I have insurance with Progressive. I wanted to just add a wedding policy through them, and I received this message:

While others are still offering some policies, many aren't even offering cancellation policies at all.
