Wedding in September - Still Don’t Have a Dress 😩👰🏾

Monique, on July 3, 2019 at 11:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
I ordered a dress from a small boutique owner in January. For the past 7 months she’s been telling me that’s it’s coming, giving me different dates and excuses, yet the dress has yet to arrive. I refuse to pay 💰 more money for something that I have yet to receive. My wedding is in SEPTEMBER. I’m pissed. Now I have to go and pick out a dress that I really DON’T want all because this woman could not be honest w/me. Nothing seems to be going right. This is supposed to be an exciting time of my life, yet it’s been the most stressful. I’m tired and I just feel like giving up smh 🤦🏾‍♀️

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! Since your wedding is so close, I would definitely start looking for an alternative. You don't want to have to find something a week or two before your wedding! I can't imagine how stressful this must be. I would reach out to her again and tell her you need a definitive answer on when it will arrive or that you want your money back!

Do you know the designer and style number? Maybe you'll get lucky and you'll be able to find is elsewhere.

Do you have a contract? I'd definitely start looking for another dress and see about recovering the money for the first dress. Sorry you are going through this

What a nightmare. I’m sorry that this is happening to you. I haven’t even started dress shopping yet and this is my fear. Just trying to lose more weight before I go. I pray she gives you an answer or you get your money back.

I'd start calling around to see if anyone has it in stock. Maybe you'll get lucky and can get it off the rack.

I'm not sure if this is an option but can you call the designer directly yourself to see what is happening? I actually had a question about my dress and reached out to the designers (Kenneth Winston) on Instagram message (didn't expect a response really) and they replied within a few days.

I would look into taking her to small claims court. If she’s jacking you around this much how do you know she actually ordered it?

Don't spend more money yet. Send her an email (not a phone call... email is written proof) with all of the details. Mention the amount of the deposit you gave her, the date you gave it to her, name the numerous times she has promised the dress will arrive and failed to produce it, and give her a clear deadline. Ex: "If the dress does not arrive by July XX, giving me time for a fitting and alterations, I expect a full immediate return of my deposit. This will allow me to find a dress in time for my wedding." ...You choose the date that you are comfortable with.

I felt like this. First they said it would be here in april, then it changed to may, then June. I was starting to think I should go find another dress. Then it actually came in. I was a little surprised to be honest. I'd call and ask for a straight up answer, if she can't give it to you I would ask for a refund and deposit back and then go buy something else. Hopefully you can find something you like.

    This!!

This is what you need to do. Don't worry about small claims court unless she decides not to refund you. First and foremost you need her to acknowledge your concerns and then give you a definitive answer! If she can't produce you say you need your money back so you have time to get a new dress. If she refuses then worry about small claims court. I'd start trying on other dress just in case so you are prepared if need be to jump on another dress. Theres always time if you handle it correctly!

UGH! Who is this woman? She is awful. Girl please! I'd made such a big stink in her store...

Anyway, I am sorry that you are dealing with this. Since you have all the info on the dress, scour the internet for this dress. You'd be surprised at where you can find dresses these days. I do like the idea about reaching out to the designer. If they knew one of their authorized dealers was not delivering their dresses they may make a stink on your behalf and also get your dress to you.

Lastly, this would be my stink for the store. To go and find the owner and loudly tell her how she took your money and gave you nothing. Robbery, really. Tell her that she better get to writing you a refund check or you will be back AFTER you are married to get it via the courts. Maybe then she will miraculously find your dress.

Let us know how it all goes. Best wishes!
