Wedding in Michigan?

on July 25, 2020 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hello! I live near Toledo area and I was curious if I picked a venue in Michigan (because they aren’t that far away) Is it possible to have a ceremony there or not because we would be getting an Ohio Marriage license? I don't know the laws

Your Ohio wedding license will only be valid in Ohio. If you'd like to get married in Michigan, you'd need to get a license in Michigan.

Yes, you can. You have to get your marriage license in the MI county you're getting married in.

Yes, you can get a license in any state regardless of where you live. It looks like you’ll need to get the license in the county in which you’ll be getting married at least 3 days before the wedding and no more than 33 days out. You’ll need to go in person with the correct paperwork and forms of identification. I found this information about Ottawa county through a quick Google search: https://www.miottawa.org/departments/countyclerk/vitalrecord/marriage.htm
I’d call the clerk recorder’s office in the county you are getting married in to make sure you have all the correct information.

Your pastor should be able to marry you in whatever state you choose, unless there’s a rule in Ohio that I’m not aware of. You and your FS would be the ones obtaining the license. Your officiant just signs it.

I’m getting married in Michigan, and from my understanding, either you or FS must have Michigan ID.

If you or your FH live in Michigan, then you need to go to the county where you live to get your MI marriage license. Once issued, it is valid anywhere in the state.

If neither of you are MI residents, then you need to go the the county you're getting married in, and the license will only be valid in that county.
