ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated! We are pondering the idea!

My friends that did this actually had a legal ceremony in the US and a symbolic ceremony in Mexico because getting legally married in Mexico can be time consuming and require a number of documents.

We are planning our wedding for a city not far from Cancun. We are having it at a resort and will be doing a symbolic one with the legal document signing stuff before we leave the States. We didn't want to go through the hassle of translating documents into Spanish and then back into English (wedding certificate) as well as have a blood test or stay even longer at the resort before the wedding. Mexico has a residency requirement I think it was 3 full days there from when I was researching it.

My best friend is planning a wedding near my hometown and has much more stressing things going on with trying to find everything than I have so far since everything is basically included in my package with the resort. There are pros and cons to a wedding in another country, but this fit for my FH and I. So if it is something that you are thinking about, looking at different resort packages may be a way to go (you may need to email the resorts to get the package information since it took me a long time to find any info online without emailing people).

We recently went to a wedding on Isla Mujeres (you fly into Cancun and then ferry over to the island). It was amazing! They did the legal courthouse marriage when they got home. They had a planner but she wasn't associated with a specific resort, just knew all the vendors available on the island.
