Wedding in Asia and Convid-19... What to-do suggestions 🙏

Sheri, on February 24, 2020 at 5:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hello all,

We are planning on having our wedding in Southeast Asia this year in the fall. We are super excited to have a trip of a lifetime and I always wanted a destination wedding. We pretty much have booked our venues, got things planned out and told all of our guests at the start of last year. Now with the coronavirus spreading more and more, I'm starting to freak out. I really hope that this is going to die down by the end of Spring. If any of you are planning your wedding overseas, especially in Asia, I would like to know what you are doing to handle this.

By fall you should be fine but maybe postpone the date or have a back up plan stateside.

I think you should be prepared for either of these:

It gets worse and your plans get canceled.
It dies down but people are still freaked and won’t go because of what is going on now.

I think it's too early to know how this is going to play out, they just don't know enough about the virus to predict what will happen. I would definitely purchase wedding/travel insurance to help cover your losses if you later decide to change plans (read the fine print carefully so you know what is and isn't covered). And, as a pp said, I'd start working on a plan B in case you need to go with a different option for everyone's safety and/or peace of mind. Hopefully, it all resolves quickly, but like they say, "the best defense is a good offense...." Good luck!

I’m not an expert but I am in healthcare. I can’t tell you for sure what’s going to happen with the Cornavirus but here is what I think: I don’t think this virus is just going to go away by the time it is fall. This virus is more deadly than the flu but not as bad as SARS. Also, diseases spread quickly in the fall and winter because people are generally inside buildings which means people are closer together which means disease spreads faster and easier. Countries are trying to contain it as best as they can so hopefully that will decrease the spread of the Cornavirus by the time it is your wedding! I would definitely have a back up plan in case it is still bad by the time of your wedding or in case most of your guests are uneasy about traveling there. Hoping for all the best for you!

You didn't mention which country you are going to. I would look up what measures that country is taking and decide from there. Note that many Western countries are also having out breaks so this is not only a problem in Asia. For instance Italy is currently placing towns under quarantine.

If it isn't too late to back out I would, from the articles and predictions I have read about it is not looking good. But who knows, it could die down by the fall but I would personally not want to chance it.
