Wedding hashtags.. why is this a thing?

Peachypie, on May 21, 2018 at 9:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Maybe I'm getting old, but I think this is ridiculous.. Smiley xd (Sorry, not trying to knock what other people dig, it's just my opinion.)

Regardless, I'm trying to go with the current wedding trend and pick something out... I'm blanking.. Neither my spouse or I have last names that make this easy, lol...

Our names are Jacquelyn Overhuls and Todd Siravo (I often go by Jackie). Any creative suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I have no suggestions for you but I just want to say we aren’t doing one 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t really see the point I’m sure people are going to tag me in any photos they post on social media even though I don’t post anything myself. Any pictures that I really want access to will come from the photographer. Everyone I know who has done one has been posting wedding stuff leading up to the wedding with the hashtag for a long time prior. I guess just because I’m not into social media.

    Hi Jackie!

As people post everything immediately these days, a popular # can make posts about your Wedding be more discoverable and be trending locally. You can then look it up later on social media and find pics your photographer may have missed.

Do you intend to to take Todd's name?

Here are some ideas for you- oh, and don't forget to visit our # generator tool!

    #siravosoiree

    #cheerstotooddandjackie

    #Stokedtobeasiravo

    #Toddandjackiegethitched

Or you could do a celebrity mixed name: #overavo

I've definitely been wondering the same thing (also if I'm just getting old!)

I'm glad I'm not the only one!! Smiley heart

Thanks for your suggestions, Jay! It's kind of funny to toy with the idea even if we don't go with a hashtag.

If you don't want to do it, I wouldn't! "trends" are a thing that's going on currently, but I don't think it will take away from your wedding in any way! Especially if you can't find one you really like. Some people have super easy ones, ours was more tricky but we nailed one down.

I think it's cool if you have a cute name to go with the hashtag! I was in a wedding last year and their name rhymed with "Hello" so the theme was "You had me at hello" and it was super cute! It also helps find all the pictures people post on social media from your wedding if you click on the hashtag, they all come up at once. Personally, we aren't doing one. My future last name doesn't rhyme with anything super cute, and most of our friends have private social media accounts so if they post something they will tag us anyway!

I HATE hashtags. I (jokingly of course) told my friends they're uninvited if they try to come up with one. Just tag us with our names.

I usually don't like hashtags myself and am on the fence about using the in general. My friend came up with a clever one and I think if it's used at all, it might be at the bottom of a sign lol

They're alright, but not something to lose sleep over, I think.

I am going to do one. I have used the hashtags that others have used in their weddings to see all the pictures that people have posted. I also know one couple in particular that has continued to use theirs after their wedding as well as it was not specific to the wedding. It is definitely not necessary though.

It does not have to be particularly punny or anything like that necessarily. You can do #SiravoWedding2018 #T&JTietheknot etc.

I was going to do a wedding hashtag but he has a very difficult last name to think of anything clever. Also if your wanting to do a wedding hashtag to see everyone’s pictures it only works if people’s accounts are public. I’m ditching the wedding hashtag and I’m going with an app called Veri. Apparently you download this app and you pay to set up your event then you have your guests get the app (its free for your guests) and the day of your event all the pictures they take automatically get uploaded to this app. Seems amazing!

We didn't bother. Neither H nor I even have an Instagram account and I could only think of 1 person among our 200 invitees who I know actually uses instagram with any frequency, so for us it seemed really unnecessary.

However, when our pictures came back and I uploaded some to Facebook, I titled the album "#ourweddinghadnohashtag" because it amused me.

If you want one but also at the same time feel it's kinda silly, maybe just lean super hard into that silliness? #toddandjackieinlovebutmystifiedbyhashtags
