Wedding Hairstyles for African American Women

Athina, on June 29, 2019 at 7:53 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14
My hair is HOT mess!! Especially now that its summer. I have absolutely no clue what I plan to do with my hair on my wedding day. I was thinking about curly extensions but I dont want a sew-in. I tried a sew-in once and ended up taking it out 3 or 4 hours later because it was painful and didnt look cute. I don't want to wear a wig. If any of you ladies know what I'm talking about, I welcome any suggestions. Also I dont want to spend hundreds of dollars on my hair. Thanks!!

Your sew in shouldn't have hurt if it was done properly. But what's the style of your wedding. What length and what texture of hair do you have. These are questions that need to be known especially since you don't want a sew in or wig. But these are the styles my girls will be wearing.

Thanks Michelle. The first tyra picture looks interesting. My hair is natural and about shoulder length. Its black, gets dry and frizzy a lot so I tend to but it in a protective style and leave it alone. Lately however I've been washing, blowing dry which brings the length a little passed my shoulders, then I put it in a ponytail, but it's just annoying to deal with and since my WD is in August I know the humidity might make it frizz up which is why I thought a curly extension hairdo might work.

I have no knowledge on sew ins or wigs but have you considered using homemade flaxseed gel in your hair? That stuff really eliminates frizz and costs about 15 cents a batch to make. I used it in my 3b/c curls on my wedding day and it was perfect. Maybe it can work for you?

Love Michelle's ideas! There are also some beautiful natural hair ideas on pinterest if uou are wantingto go that route! That's where I'm getting my inspiration from and am looking forward to wearing a natural hair style.
As for your hair getting dry and frizzy, it is important that you keep it moisturized, even when in a protective style. My favorite moisturizing spray is Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier. Its light and doesn't weigh my hair down but keepa it from drying out in this Texas summer heat.

I don’t have any suggestions, but wanted to say I’m in the same boat. I have no clue what I want to do with my hair.

Thanks Chanté I really appreciate your ideas. I've used Taliah waajid before and didnt really notice it doing anything for me but I believe they have a whole line of different products so maybe I'll do quick research on what might work best for me. Having a natural hairstyle sounds like a great idea too. 😊😊

Can you do a silk press blow out? That way you can style it how you want it. I usually wear it curly but straightened it for the wedding.

Ooh get crochet hair. You can get any style you want. This was crochet. It took like 2 hours and will last for about 3 weeks or so. They have so many styles.

Ohhh cute. 😍 looks very nice on you. I could do that but a little worried about heat damage from salons. When I do it, it's okay but I feel like hairdressers don't care if your hair gets burned. Its happened to me before and has left me a bit traumatized. My Hair was totally fried and fell out. I'm glad that my hair has grown back but I feel like my hair has been through a lot of stress. But I'll consider this look as well. Thank you for your help and congratulations. 😊

Oh no. I would be worried as well. I can understand not wanting it done. I hadn't realized how many styles they had for crochet until I walked into a hair store and asked. They're ll prelooped so it is faster to do. I thought it was just braids. That wasn't the case at all.
