Wedding hair washing: night before or day of?

Aly, on June 25, 2018 at 4:42 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 29
My hair can get oily. Not to mention, I can’t imagine not showering on my wedding day. Anyone here have a good experience with showering the morning of? Any tips (such as don’t use heat, etc)? Thanks!

If you are getting your hair done professionally, it actually does hold the dirtier your hair is... perhaps wash your hair the night before but definitely shower the morning of (at least to wash your body) as well.

I am a freelance hair stylist for weddings and I beg of you, DO NOT shower the morning of your wedding if you’re getting your hair professionally done. It will be so much harder to style. Shower the night before, and the next morning you can use some dry shampoo for a little freshening up.

I showered within an hour of my hair appointment but I didn't wash my hair. My stylist said he would wash it when I came in.

I had no issues with my hair holding.

I agree with Future Mrs. H. The dirtier, usually the better. If you can't hold off with showering the day of, I suppose the morning of wouldn't be terrible. It really depends on the thickness of your hair and other factors too.

Are you doing a trial? I’d test just washing it the night before. See if you think it’s too oily at the trial. Like future Mrs. H said, my hair curls better when it’s kinda dirty.

I wash my hair every other day or so and if I’m feeling oily I take a blow dryer to it then spray in some dry shampoo and brush it into my hair with my fingers. You could try that.

I'm going to shower the day of, but will be washing my hair the night before rehearsal. It was recommended by my stylist because the hair will hold better.

My hair person told me to show up with clean dry hair, so i washed mine the morning of--my hair is pretty fine and gets oily so i wanted it to be as clean as possible. i had no issues with my style holding all day.

in real non-wedding life i routinely go a few days without fully washing my hair but will do my bangs or a little dry shampoo on a daily basis--works super well for oiliness!

Did you get a hair trial done? That's one of the questions I plan on asking when I go for mine. I would definitely shower, but you can always put it up and keep it dry if they don't want it washed or even wet.

I have really oily (straight, average weight, long) hair and I washed my hair the night before. My hairstylist said it wasn't a big deal and just added lots of hairspray and texturizing spray. It held almost the entire night even though I danced and sweated the whole time.

I think as long as your hairstylist is aware that you plan on showering, they can come prepared with products to help "dirty" your hair.

So you mean no shower at all? I'm also curious on this topic. In my typical routine I shower (wash hair and body/face) one day then the next day I will put my hair up in a top knot kind of bun and shower but only body/face and have my hair up so it doesn't get wet. Is a shower still a no-go on the day of if you aren't actually washing your hair?

I am a big proponent of not washing your hair every day. Shower caps are a great thing. Shower in the morning with a shower cap on!

No you can totally shower body wise if you need to-but just don’t wash hair the morning of. It’s better to work on day old hair for styling purposes.

but honestly if you shower the night before your wedding I’m not sure why you’d also have to shower again in the morning? In my daily life I only shower every other day, so to shower the night before would still keep you plenty clean.

So if you getting your hair done, ask your artist! Shell tell you when to wash it, you can also wash your body the morning of and leave the hair up in a towel so your still clean! Smiley smile

Ask the person doing your hair what thier preference is. You can always put a shower cap on and still shower the morning of without getting your hair wet.

Hi Aly, I have oily, frizzy hair and showered the morning of my wedding with no problems! I would recommend talking to your stylist about it beforehand though; maybe he/she has a strong preference or recommendations for products/no products, etc. Mine just said to come in with dry hair, so I just used a heat protector and blow dried, and it turned out great!

Check with your stylist for sure. Mine wanted dirty hair. I went for a shampoo and blowout the morning of the day before the wedding, which also made me feel special for that day and the rehearsal. I did shower in the morning before the wedding, but I put my hair up and didn't wash it (just like I do every other day since I wash my hair every other day).

I washed my hair the night before (maybe just wash it in the evening?). But the day of the wedding, after a few hours of setting up decor and getting sweaty, I showered!

I got a shower cap and still showered the morning of without washing my hair. Best of both worlds. 🙂

Wash the night before and then just use a shower cap in the morning if you're nervous to get your hair wet
