Wedding hair washing: night before or day of?

My hair can get oily. Not to mention, I can’t imagine not showering on my wedding day. Anyone here have a good experience with showering the morning of? Any tips (such as don’t use heat, etc)? Thanks!

It's going to depend on how I do my hair for the wedding. Right now it's waving up nicely on it's own if I shower in the morning. If I want straighter or styled hair though I'll wash it the day before or it just looks like a poofy mess.

I just had my hair trial yesterday and my stylist said I should shower/wash my hair the morning of and come in with dry hair so that is what i will do. My hair is fine and can get oily which is why she recommended washing the morning of. There are all kinds of texturizing sprays that she can use to make my hair "dirtier". I would ask your stylist what he or she prefers based on your hair type, and what style you've chosen for your hair.

I'll be washing my hair the night before and showering the morning of with my hair up in a shower cap - need to shave, exfoliate, and generally smell good for the wedding, but since I'm getting my hair curled I'll want it a little dirty so it stays in.

I have really fine hair that gets oily super quickly and I've just never fully jumped on board with not washing every day 🙊 - even though I know it would fight the greasy problem if I totally committed!

I washed and fully dried my hair the morning of my wedding, but it was the same thing I did for my trial so my stylist knew what she was working with! As others have said, I would definitely talk to your stylist about it at your trial.

I've seen some HMU contracts that specifically stipulate 2nd day hair, and stylists who include in their contract that they will charge extra if someone shows up with wet hair! (It makes sense, it takes more time for them!) But on the other hand - I also have a friend who decided with her stylist at the trial that on the wedding day she would wash her right beforehand and the stylist would blow-dry it. She wanted the pro blow-dry for wedding day volume! Smiley shame

I just booked my trial and I asked her. She wants me to wash my hour 24 hours prior to the appointment but, not to use any product in it. I'll wear a shower cap the morning of the wedding to shower. I have very thick hair and do not need to wash it often (usually twice a week max) so, often shower using a cap without issue.

I ask whoever is doing your hair. My hair gets very oily too and actually does not hold curl well. When I did my trial with my hair dresser and washed it and put product in before she dried it so that it would hold curl better and it came out perfect. She wants me to shower the morning of so she can do the same thing again. I would strongly urge you to speak to your own hair stylist to get their recommendation based on your own hair since everyone is different.

If someone is doing your hair, I would share your concerns with them! I would agree with everyone though that you should avoid washing the day of!

For me, for sure the morning of! My hair gets WAY too oily to do it the night before and not the day of. I'll also bring a spray dry shampoo in case I get oily while she is doing my hair. I'm going to deep condition 2 days before, then wash as normal the day of. I probably won't use heat the day of, just air dry.

If I were you I would definitely check with the person who is doing your hair as to whether you should wash it the night before or the day of. For my wedding day between my niece and my best friend's niece they did my hair. My hair is naturally curly, so it turns into a curly, frizzy, look like I put my finger in a light socket mess, lol. I had brought some hair product with me and my niece because of the type of hair that she has helped a little with the frizziness (by the way I did wash my hair the day before and the day of my wedding) just because for one it was raining for like 4 straight days including our wedding day and the day before the wedding we were setting the church up to get ready for the wedding. My best friend's niece curled and styled my hair.
