Wedding guests....can't make it last minute. What to do? Please help! 4 days till wedding.

Brenda, on March 4, 2013 at 1:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

This is my first marriage and I have been doing this all by myself (centerpieces, decorations, invitations) and my fiance and I are paying for all of it!

So here it is I am getting married at a courthouse and having the reception at a restaurant (to which we've paid the deposit.) Its is a tiny wedding a total of 24 people (including kids). We are then told 3 family guests of his can't make it because of school. I was bummed but I figured I would fill in their spots fast with family. 5 days b4 wedding we r told that 6 other family guests of his can't make it now. This time we cant fill in ppl.

Is it wrong to cancel the reception since only 15 ppl (11adults) can go?

Are you worried about the money? Do you get a deposit back? I wouldn't cancel, this is a special day. Shame on those people for cancelling though.

Can you change your numbers with the restaurant? Call and ask them.

I wouldn't cancel, don't you still want to celebrate with those that are coming? I'm sorry that happened though Smiley sad

If I cancel I lose my deposit. The contract states that the minimun I can spend is $900, now I doubt my guests of 15 (11 who are actual adults) can rack up that kind of bill in 2 hrs! I CAN change the headcount with the restaurant to 15, but I still have to spend the $900 plus tax. So I will be losing more money going forward with it...and I can't afford that.

Are you having a set menu they can choose from at the restaurant? Do drinks count towards that minimum? Desserts? $900 divided by 15 people is $60/person, which is doable.

Like the other ladies have said, I wouldn't cancel. Talk to the restaurant first about what meal/drink options you have. I think you'd still be able to meet that minimum.

^Agree, I think you will still meet it. Order bottles of wine and some restaurants may let you take unopened bottles home with you. If you talk with them they may waive the minimum if you are not using a private room.

Thank you everyone for the great advice, I think all of you said not to cancel. And you're right, I've put so much of my work in this so I will have to figure something out with the restaurant.

I believe one of the reasons cancelling was on the top of to-do is because mi fiance is so hurt I don't want to go forward with something that will hurt him even more...I mean c'mon none of his family will be there. Smiley sad

If you can't make the minimum at the end of the night, order bottles of wine to go to meet it. People can take it home or you can keep for yourself. Definitely keep the reservation and enjoy it.

It's still your day so don't cancel. Can you invite co-workers? B-list guest? Alcohol will definately hike up the bill so don't worry.

That's a bummer, talk to the restaurant I'm sure they will be able to work something out, upgrade the menu, champagne, wine... They'll be able to work something out.

You deserve the pay off of you hard work. I hope you enjoy your day. I understand how you feel about FH my FH has no family coming due to them being out of the country, and he has one friend that is coming. I chose to have a small wedding 15 ppl because I didn't feel right having all of my family and him having no one.
