Wedding gone WRONG!!

Lulu, on April 28, 2017 at 5:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 36

Where should I start!! I got invited to a wedding and the list of don'ts are long. I plan to get some take aways from this wedding and I hope you all do too. First of all it was pretty tacky but I'll hold back because the things that make it so are my opinion and preferences to certain things. So here we go. The bridal party showed up an hour and 15 minutes late to the church. The ceremony ended at the start time of the reception (full mass). The venue was 40 minutes away. So everyone showed up about an hour late to the venue. They didn't start serving passed hors d'oeuvres until 45 minutes after that. The appetizers were very skimp like ppl were asking the waiters for additional pieces and they said they couldn't. There was hardly any dancing because the Dj was bad and the bride and groom had multiple performances done by ppl they knew which took up dancing time. The bar was open bar but they only had 3 types of vodka 1 tequila and rum. Continued in comments

The spirits were in limited quantities and we only got served soda once during the evening. Lastly, dinner was served 30 minutes before the end of the event. By the time I finished eating they cut the lights on and started cleaning up. Some tables were still waiting for their dinner. Smh this was so unfortunate and not guest friendly at all.

Fail to see the issue here....' The bar was open bar but they only had 3 types of vodka 1 tequila and rum.' unless you are saying that was it and they didn't even have beer or wine on offer which would be extremely weird.

What's so bad about 3 different types of vodka?

That was literally it guys. A total of 4 different types 2 in each. Meaning for the whole wedding 8 bottles of alcohol

ETA: 200 plus guests. I had to hold my one drink the entire night so others could have some. All I wanted was a glass of Pinot grigio which they didn't have.

How does anyone mismanage time THAT badly? Guests didn't even get fed...

No wine, no beer and apparently no more soda.

Starving with one vodka drink in my stomach sounds like my own personal version of hell. Yikes!!

Did I forget to mention it was a midweek day night wedding. Some guests came straight from work hungry.

Oh gosh! The wedding just gets worse and worse. Why the need for 200 people? I fail to understand why anyone would want a wedding of that size. She clearly wasn't willing to spend the money to properly host that many people.

Wow this straight blows - did the bride and groom notice? it obviously was catered so *what* nightmare company catered this? unless the delay from the church and performances caused a food safety issue but there is little excuse for the alcohol - not a clue what that's about

My wedding may be about that size because we have huge families and our parents are willing to pay for the extras. BUT, guest experience is at our forefront. FH and I have both worked in customer service and have our own business and understand how key it is.

I went to a wedding a week ago that was similar to this. The first hour was cash bar, then open bar (but the bartenders literally did not know how to make a single drink), then it was closed for an hour. We didn't eat until 10PM so I was starving by then. The DJ was awful, but the couple does have odd taste in music so I'm not sure I can completely fault him. And on top of all of this FH and I were b-listed to this wedding. So I completely feel for you in this situation

Wow...what a pathetic excuse for a wedding...I'm assuming they were after all the gifts for that amount of people based on how cheap they went.

Did they ask for cash instead of a gift too? That would just top it all off.

See.....but no one reading this thinks it will happen to them. Because they're different.
