Wedding Gifts from the in-laws

annakay511, on September 17, 2015 at 7:23 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

Our wedding gift from my MIL, BIL and SIL just came today...a new fridge!! We remodeled our kitchen ourselves, and the only thing still left was our old almond-color fridge with the freezer on top. Super excited for our new one- and the ice maker!! Haha. My FIL got DH and I each watches, and a framed art print (they're divorced). I should note, my in-laws didn't contribute a cent to the wedding although they did generously host our 40-person rehearsal dinner. Married ladies, what did your in-laws give you as a wedding gift?

His parents told my husband they had budgeted $1000 for our wedding gift. They paid $700 for the rehearsal dinner (didn't pay for alcohol, on religious principles) and wrote us a check for $300.

His sister attended with her family of four and didn't even give us a congratulatory note or card. I knew she had animosity, because she told my mother, grandmother, etc., at my bridal shower, that she got married at the courthouse twice, so no fuss or expenses. Hubby paid for his nephew's tuxedo ($179) and we paid for his niece's bridesmaid gown ($265); their 4 plates cost us over $600. Oh well ...

I'm not sure what we will get. They did contribute 1k, which should pay for the rehearsal dinner.

My in-laws have been extremely generous, for which I am super grateful. Aside from contributing to the wedding fund, paying for parking at the venue for all of our guests, and hosting rehearsal dinner, they have given us a few wedding gifts off our registry. They gave us our bedspread and a pillow sham at the shower, mailed us the serving bowls we wanted to match our new dishes, and then gave us the flatware we wanted last weekend when we saw them so they wouldn't have to bring it to the wedding.

I have the best almost in-laws. So very grateful for all they have done for us - both for the wedding and not.

Love it! That's something we are wanting to do soon after the wedding too and I have to ask if you did the Rust-Oleum cabinet transformations? We did it on the cabinets in one of our bathrooms and really liked it but I am scared to do the kitchen because it will be a big project.

FMIL is doing our invitations (she designs cards as a hobby) and they will be paying for the rehearsal 'dinner' (it's gonna be a BBQ at the park close to the venue). I don't really expect anything from FFIL, he and FH are not close, but he will likely come to the wedding.

My FILs have been very generous as well--they're paying for our honeymoon and the rehearsal dinner, and gave us the complete set of dishes we registered for at my shower.

Nothing yet. MIL has some legal stuff going on and is hoping to give us a nice gift from that. That would be totally awesome, but it doesn't matter to us at this point.

Your fridge is so nice. I wish we had our own house and not a rental.

We are currently lending my future in laws money because his dad has to have back surgery and his mom can't make enough to support them. So I highly doubt there will be a wedding gift at all. I'm not going to lie that this post is making me extremely jealous. But they are really sweet people and I'm excited to have them as in-laws.

@SwoleMates don't be jealous! My DH's family has so many issues and such a weird family dynamic, I think they all need family counseling. My MIL is an obnoxious person who sucks in so many ways. So, as thankful I am for the gifts it doesn't improve the MIL I'm stuck with for life!

I love that fridge! I'm jealous!! My MIL gave us about 3k towards the wedding, my FIL let us use his house for the wedding and built us a gorgeous bar that we're building into our deck, and my parents contributed about 2k to the wedding, paid for the rehearsal dinner and bought us a washer and dryer!

Our honeymoon location (they own it, but its rented out for vacations and whatnot and costs a maintenance fee or whatever for them to book it for a week), although we would have paid them, and also cash and the wedding cake, neither of which we expected but it was really kind of them.

My in laws are paying for the food and alcohol. They have always been very generous. I do not expect anything else but I wouldn't be surprised if they had something else up their sleeves.
