Wedding gifts from parents of the bride and groom?

JENNIFER, on July 28, 2019 at 9:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Is it common for the bride's parents to give a wedding gift to the couple when they are also paying for the wedding?

My parents are helping with the wedding. It is their gift to us. We will not be getting an additional gift at the wedding, except maybe a card with a note in it (no money or anything), and I wouldnt expect anything from them anyway with how much they are helping us!

I don't think so, because paying for the wedding is a gift itself!

I was the MOB. We paid for a substantial amount of the wedding. Except for a few sentimental things, we did not give the B&G a "wedding gift." We gave them a card (and booked/paid for their wedding night hotel). Daughter got pretty close to everything she wanted for the wedding and shower, and several significant gifts at the shower.

I wouldn't expect it. My parents did and I tried to give the money back because they paid for a third of the wedding, which was already more than generous.

Our parents gave us rather generous cash gifts. I didn't expect it from either set if I'm being honest.
I think part of it was my parents had set aside X amount for the wedding and gave us what wasnt spent from their contribution.

My parents are paying for my entire wedding and I would refuse a gift if they offered one. A dream wedding is a gift no one could top.

Thank you all so much. After reading all your answers to my question, I feel so relieved. Our daughter is our only child, so why wouldn't we give her the wedding of her dreams? And we are also paying for their wedding night. Again, thank y'all!! :-)

My mom is helping with a large chunk of the wedding, so I wouldn't be expecting any additional gifts from her! It's different if she insists if we take whatever it is she is trying to give, but we're definitely not in anticipation for it. She's paying for the catering and the cake, so that's a huge help for me and FH. Smiley heart

My parents are. My mom still got me a shower gift and she said that they will give us money towards a bedroom furniture set in addition to paying for a portion of the wedding.

My parents did, in-laws didn't. They both helped pay.

My parents are paying for our wedding and I would not accept anything else.
