Wedding Gift Shipment w/bad package history

Katie, on July 12, 2019 at 8:19 AM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 5
We live in Chicago and a good portion of people invited to the wedding will be travelling from out of state and most likely shipping wedding gifts instead of carrying-on. Our apartment does not have a secure place for packages to be dropped off, we’ve had packages stolen in the past. I was hoping we could do a PO Box, but Zola does not deliver to PO Boxes. Anyone run into this? We don’t have many close friends in the city who have a reliable mail room and I don’t want to inundate my workplace with packages. Thanks!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Katie Smiley smile

Do you have a parent or relative out of your city who would accept them on your behalf?

If you're doing an Amazon registry, they could possibly go to a locker. Alternatively, if you're registering at different stores you could divide the delivery addresses (one store go to her work, one to her partner’s work, one to a friend, etc.) so one isn't inundated with deliveries. Do you think this could work?

If it's possible to leave a delivery note, you could add that packages cannot be left, they have to be given to a person. This might mean you have to do frequent runs to the post office but at least you would know they're safe!

I would also recommend you write a complaint to the landlord/leasing office if you haven't already. That is a pretty major inconvenience to your and your FS if they cannot provide you with a secure place for deliveries!

I hope one of these suggestions works for you Smiley smile

Do an Amazon locker/pick up or rent a space at UPS for delivery.

I think this website can help you in this . They will hold all your shipments and hand over to you when you want.

Katie, thanks for asking this question! We were just talking about the same issue that we will have. Smiley smile The fun of Chicago apartments. But now at least I have some good suggestions to consider.

I think renting a space at UPS or USPS for delivery will be a better idea. Or there are many small stores that can do this much for you. You just have to tell them whenever you want to deliver. But they may charge extra for the shipping.
