Wedding garter tradition

What are your thoughts on the garter toss? I've always wanted to do it but now I'm not sure it's very appropriate for our wedding and all the older family members that will be there. I thought about taking it off myself instead of having my fiance do it and just putting it on a football like I've seen before. What are your thoughts on the garter toss? Too risqué? Or go for it?cfb_1521011.jpg

Along with the bouquet toss, I loathe this part of a reception. I find it offensive and definitely am skipping it at my wedding.

We are going to do a bouquet toss for any single people at the wedding regardless of gender. And I think my dress might be too form-fitting for a garter to even fit underneath it!

I also find it very cringey and originally didn’t want to do it at all.
My solution was to have two garters. One was my “something blue” that had our initials on it. The other one was given to my husband before I even walked down the aisle. He used that one for the garter toss.

I’m definitely doing the garter, but not the garter toss! Just like I’m having a bouquet but not a bouquet toss.

I think this is definitely up to you and your fiancé. Whatever you’re comfortable doing, do it! Personally we cut out the garter and bouquet toss and are doing an anniversary dance instead. We are buying a separate bouquet for the last standing couple! They are plenty of alternatives if you’re worried about “filling” that space.

I'm still thinking about it myself some are single and not sure if they will catch or not at first I have to explain to my fiancee what it was lol lol now he is saying that he dont know if he wants to get down on the throw. So we might still have time to decide

While I think people should be able to do whatever their heart desires for their wedding since it isn’t hurting anyone, we decided not to do the garter toss for our wedding. But we are also skipping out on the bouquet toss and the cake cutting too. I don’t get the “tradition” or want of feeding each other cake but to each their own 😆.

I’m skipping that along with the bouquet toss. My family is very religious so I feel like it would be super awkward lol

We're still thinking about the garter toss. It seems odd that even the religious crowd has done this in the past. The garter toss seems a bit too intimate for us in a crowd and just plain embarrassing. But it is often anticipated and I might be pressured to do it and it is just a short moment in the reception. Of course this is impossible if you go with a mermaid gown. lol

The part I was not aware of was where the guy who catches the garter then would put it on the gal that catches the bouquet. We'll totally skip that.

But there are the alternatives people have mentioned. So those are worth considering.

We weren't going to do it but we might still do it because it is sort of expected of us. I would have to overcome my introversion though.
