Wedding food!

Buffet vs small plated stations vs full plated “sit down” dinner. What did you find to be cheaper?

Worried about time and don’t want the dinner part to take up all of the reception!

We are going with a buffet style dinner. I don't think it will take up too much time, you can also start the first dance and speeches while people are eating. Smiley smile I think buffet style is typically the cheaper way to go as well.

We did buffet and stations. Buffet was much cheaper than plated. We didn't thing it took too long. We did speeches prior and a pray prior to dancing. We also did our first dance right after our grand entrance. We were served first so while people were finishing up we cut our cake then served that. While people were eating their dessert we did our parent dances.

I tried doing stations but it seemed pricey as most venues stick with their wedding packages. Buffets some don’t offer. I changed at last minute and went plated as I really didn’t want people to have to wait in line. I think it depends on size.

Buffets tend to be the cheapest but we’re doing plated as we plan to have 180-200 guests. A buffet just won’t work in our space with that many guests and lines can get too long thus not really saving any time.

Personally I like Buffett because people can get what they want and they are typically a bit quicker. I’ve been to large weddings with plated meals that took forever and there was very little time for dancing.

We're kinda stepping outside of tradition and doing a potluck style reception. In fact, a lot of our wedding "jobs" have been taken by our wonderful friends and family volunteering! But yes, we have more than a few cooks in our guest list, and they are quite eager to make something special for the big day.

Personally, every wedding I've attended has been buffet style. I think buffets are perfectly fine and dandy. Every can grab just the things that they want, and it cuts down on the formality in an acceptable way.

I think buffet and plated are the best. I felt like I didn't get enough food at the only small plate wedding I went to. It was also difficult to walk around with a plate and a drink. I think both plate and buffet can take less than an hour as long as you have enough staff and enough lines for buffet.
