Wedding Favors

Cassidy, on September 28, 2021 at 11:14 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 7

Hi everyone,

The wedding has 150 invited guests, from 68 households, of course we won't know final numbers until much earlier and I don't plan to buy until maybe 6 weeks out. It's an outdoor evening wedding with kids in attendance as well, it will likely be mid 80s so I'm thinking chocolate or any other hard candy could potentially melt.

Ideally I'd like to spend under $300 but I can't really find anything that is standing out to me in my budget, so I'm debating going out of budget to maybe $400. I found some nice paper fans that double as programs for $200 (assuming all 150 come), we have custom plastic cups with our names, but that's really for the open bar and not really a favor.

I feel like it's not enough, but any add on that's super cute will go out of budget. Should I skip the programs (wedding & reception in one place) and just put it all toward finding other favors? Or is there any inexpensive favor you all recommend/ have loved at other peoples weddings.

I'm also debating skipping individual/group favors completely, and pooling it into a popcorn bar ($115), smores table ($125), or coffee bar ($175 Keurig), or a combo of any 2.

I'm open to ideas!

As long as you're not having a super long or complicated ceremony you don't need to have programs! Personally, I'd choose something like the popcorn bar or s'mores table over personal favors. Most people don't take the favors even when there are some.

I would definitely skip the programs. They are a complete waste of money and just end up in the trash. Everyone has been to a wedding and knows how they go. They don’t need a program. Guest favors are completely optional, and often times go unused/left behind. Unless there is something really fantastic that you are positive your guests are going to love, I would skip those too. I would put that money towards a guest experience that people will enjoy and remember. Your idea of a s’mores and coffee bar is great, especially if you are getting married in the winter! You could also put it towards some form of entertainment like a photo booth or a caricature artist.

I agree with Jessi! I would skip the favors and instead apply the money towards an alternative food option (you mentioned the popcorn bar, smores bar, and/or coffee bar as options, all are great ideas!). The programs are also not necessary, so you can skip those as well if you'd like.

I would also vote to skip the individual favors and do a smores or popcorn bar.

Thank you all! I'm going to skip the programs since we aren't doing anything out of the ordinary wedding format. Popcorn is probably what we'll do!

I went to a wedding and they had a popcorn bar as their favor. To personalize it they had custom bags. It was a hit. I would do those over other favors that may be left behind.

Unless the ceremony is religious/cultural that guests need to follow along, that can be skipped. Unless favors are edible, they will be left behind. The weddings we have attended with edible favors, the couple could not give them away at the end of the night.

Save your money and put it toward food/bar/dj that guests will remember or photos for your memories
