I’m getting married October of 2020, when should I start looking for my dress... I want to have time to look around at different places and I know depending on the place you go it could take up to 9 months to come in and thats not including alterations. When is a good time to start looking?

Probably around January would be a good time. Anything earlier than that might be too soon.

A year out is typically recommended.

I’m getting married this October. I began dress shopping in December of 2018 and I purchased my dress in January of 2019.

I'm getting married October 2020 too! I plan to start looking for my dress October this year. I've read that most brides start a year out.

I started super early, 19 months out. So I don’t think you’d be too early to at least look right now. Then you’ll have plenty of time to get alterations and for it to come in no worries.

I started in October of 2018 and I purchased it later that month and it getting married in October 2019. I would have started earlier if I wasn’t trying to not do wedding planning during school. I wanted to be completely done with school before I started planning but that didn’t happen.

When I first started looking, I went with a friend (who was looking for her bridal dress) to David's Bridal and I asked them that question. I was told to start looking a year before the wedding then order the dress no earlier than 8 months before the day. Then once the dress comes in, alterations are usually done 8 weeks before the day.

I'm getting married in September 2020 and I bought my dress in late June. If you find something you fall in love with it might not be available when you are ready. So if you are not ready to purchase yet I suggest holding off for a bit

I’m planning to go in November! Unfortunately it’s the soonest I could get all my bridesmaids together but I’m excited to start trying dresses on!

Yes that’s a good point, don’t go if you’re not ready to actually put down the first payment. But when I asked this question the main advice other than that was as long as you don’t think your style will change (and at 35 I’m pretty set in my ways haha) you can start as soon as you want. I’m getting married 10/17/2020 and my first appointment is at Kleinfelds next month! Are you a 10/17 bride too???

Omg I just had a feeling haha!! It’s a great weekend. A bunch of my friends have gotten married that weekend for the past few years now and it’s always great weather. Hopefully we have the same luck Smiley smile

I would start searching this October. A year before is a good timeline!

So I'm getting married and went shopping/bought my dress in January. I didn't know it until later, but the boutique I got my dress from runs White Friday (or some name like that) sales right after Thanksgiving. They have shorter appointment slots that day, and I expect it's fairly hectic, but you can get some really great deals on dresses if you shop then. I have a friend getting married next fall who's planning to make a longer appointment the week before to decide what she thinks she wants, and then go in during their sales to actually buy it. I think it'd be worth at least looking into whether shops near you have similar sales.

Honestly? I would start now. I am also October 2020 and I personally already found the dress and bought it. They said it will take 6-8 months to get it in. I did it this way so I have plenty of time to go try it on with different accessories and shoes and be able to coordinate my decor as well. If you want to go to several places and not feel rushed there’s no reason to wait!

I bought mine way early. My mom said we should just go look because one of the store in our area was having a sale, and I fell in love. So I bought my dress October of 2018 for a November 2020 wedding.
