Wedding Dress

Heather, on April 14, 2022 at 2:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 7

What are you doing with your wedding dress? I have a big gown with a 3 foot train. Does anyone have recommendations on preservation companies, or have some good ideas on what do do with it afterwards? I'm debating just keeping it in a box, but I can't even imagine how big that box would be. Another part of me wants to 'upcycle' my dress into something like a cocktail dress and maybe a PJ set or something cute. Open to ideas for both!

I had mine preserved through the company David's Bridal works with (no idea the name). They put the dress on a "form" and the box has a window, so you can see it. I think the box itself is about 2 1/2-3 feet tall, 18 inches wide, 5 or 6 inches deep. FWIW my dress was a ballgown (though I wore it over an a-line petticoat), with a 6 foot train.

I didn't end up doing anything with mine other than leaving it in its dress bag.

i did take it out once to wear for the wedding dress challenge where you randomly wear it and show your husband to see his reaction.

one of my friends said every year on their anniversary she wants to wear it haha which isn't a bad idea.

If you do decide to get it preserved, I highly recommend the Wedding Gown Preservation Company. They’ve been in business for over 100 years, work exclusively in wedding gowns, and do great work! I worked in bridal for 3.5 years and they always did great work- when I bought a sample as my wedding gown, they were the only ones I trusted to clean it. The way they box it up is very nice too- I have a ball gown with about a 4 foot train, and they boxed it up so neatly and compactly! I love the idea of upcycling your dress so you could wear it again as well!

I'm going to try and get mine chopped and turn it into a top that I can wear regularly. then use the rest for something like a bra or sleepwear.

I am actually framing my dress and hanging it in the foyer that leads to our bedroom.

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to get it preserved and in a few years make something from it.
