Wedding dress

Mary, on August 6, 2019 at 9:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi everyone, my dress is being shipped and I am not sure how to keep it looking glamorous for the big day, I was suggested a black bag and to keep it hung? Any other tips or does anyone else have ideas. I also can’t keep it at my house so my FH wont see it🙈 but my mother in law doesn’t want to see it either (she is the only family I have in FL) So when it come to dress fittings I’m alone 🤷🏾‍♀️ Which is fine.. I hope. Ahhh help

Yes definitely keep it hung up in a dark place to avoid and sunlight damage. A white bag works as well. Do you have a friend or someone else that could keep it for you?

Ok, thank you! I’m in Key West currently and the wedding is in Naples, few friends In the keys but all my family is in Idaho. I’m thinking I’ll take the dress and put it in the bag and just ask her to put it in the back of her closet

I have my dress in a white dress bag hanging in the back of my daughter's closet. It's been holding up just fine. Just keep in a some kind of garmet bag and hanging, and you should be just fine ☺️

Be sure you used the attached ribbon "hanging straps" and, if it has a train, that likely also has a loop sewn underneath it. Those straps and loop should be over the hanger hook, in addition to any straps/sleeves the dress has. Also, use a padded hanger. Daughter's dress arrived about a year in advance, and the bridal shop said it would be fine hanging in the white fabric bag it came in, but to be SURE AND ALWAYS USE THOSE ATTACHED HANGING STRAPS so the otherwise unsupported weight of the dress didn't stress the fabric in the bodice/dress straps. Her dress was fine during the time it was in storage. Following final alterations, it was professionally steamed and stuffed with tissue, etc., the week before the wedding so that it was perfect the day of.

In Florida, I'd also be aware of the humidity in the room where the dress will be stored -- and make sure the bag it is in is a "breathable" cloth bag, not plastic. Good luck! Smiley heart

Depending on how long til the wedding, I'd actually put it in a preservation box (like people do after the wedding). My friends dress hung on those special straps, and the weight of the dress was so much that there was stretching on the outside fabric of the dress (like dimple indents).

Thank you! I’ll have to just hang up my dress so my future mother in law won’t see it

Thank you! That’s a good idea, I’ll have to look into that.
