Wedding dress wrong size

Emily, on November 19, 2018 at 1:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23
I got an email from my the boutique i bought my dress from saying they “accidentally” ordered my dress in the wrong size. I have a signed document that states the correct size that I ordered. The problem is, the one they ordered is 2 sizes than what i am. My wedding is an april, and my dress arives late january early febuary.... they said for me to try to lose weight, but is it even possible for me to lose 40 pounds? They are giving me a $400 gift card plus any bridal accessories and my mob dress for free. Im so scared i wont be able to lose the weight and fit into my dream dress. Also, i dont have enough time to order a new one. What do i do??! Advice??? My anxiety is so bad right now my chest hurts Smiley sad

No no no no no. They owe you a full refund. Then take that $ to a bridal salon that won’t screw you over.
Or if you’re committed to this dress you take it to a skilled seamstress. How many inches shy is it in the bust and waist? Will it also be short? What style is it? Some dresses are easier to alter than others.
Losing weight is an absurd solution that puts the onus on you to fix their mistake. No no no.

When i went to try on dresses at the boutique, the dress i ended up getting was two sizes smaller when i tried it on and we couldnt even get it to zip up a little. I would have to get a corset back put in, which i dont want to do because it would make it look so off. Smiley sad

No way should you even try to lose 40 pounds - that’s ridiculous. This is on the salon to make right.

Honestly, it’s rude of them to even suggest you lose weight to fit into your dress because of their own error of ordering the wrong size. I would definitely show them the receipt stating what size was written, even take it up with their highest ranked manager if they argue. Is there a reason why they can’t just reorder the dress in an effort to make things right? Or by any chance can you get a full refund?

Oh nooooo! Don’t even do that to yourself. 40 pounds why!? Because of their mistake!? No ma’am. Don’t do it! They need to take that $400 and pay for a new dress in the correct size to be rush ordered or like the pp said full refund. They need to be the one inconvienced. Not you! Don’t put yourself in such a stressful situation like that.

Nope. Don't put the burden on yourself for their mistake. They either need to provide a full refund or they need to pay for alterations to the correct size. I know adding fabric to a wedding dress to up the size is expensive but it's on them to fix THEIR mistake.

I’m going to echo everyone else
Dont loose the weight!! They need to rush order the dress in the right size or refund you or let you choose something off the rack. Fight them if you have to, it’s their mistake and you have proof! February is plenty of time for alterations.

It's one thing to want to lose the weight on your own, it's a completely different thing for somebody to suggest it to accommodate THEIR screw up. They need to fix this completely. Rush order you a dress in the right size, refund your money AND apologize profusely for having the balls to say you need to lose the weight to fit into this dress.

They need to refund your money or at least rush order the dress in the correct size, for free. That is ridiculous... how could they even suggest you lose weight? How unprofessional...

First, it is horrible thag their remedy for this situation is for you to lose weight to fit in the dress that they ordered incorrectly. They should be correcting their mistake and provide you with a refund or order the dress in the right size and have it rushed shipped/delivered. This is on the boutique, not you!

Absolutely do not accept that as a reasonable resolution. You have the contract saying which size to order and that’s on them to fix or fully refund

Dude NO. They need to reorder the dress in the correct size. Don’t even entertain any other idea. They ALREADY realized their error, they need to sort it ASAP. 100% on them and SO messed up the suggested weight loss. No freaking way. Just NO.

Get on the phone with a manager and have them sort it. Seriously if they won’t, track down the manufacturer and tell THEM the situation— no manufacturer should want their dresses being sold through a retailer like this.

For the record, MY dress was misordered by the shop— it came in the wrong color, and none of us knew til it came in and I went to pick it up/put it on a mere 2 months (maybe slightly less) before my wedding. I was very concerned we were too close to the date to get the right one in, but— The store and manufacturer reconciled it IMMEDIATELY. They rushed a new dress, now with the correct order, and I had it in 2 weeks.

THEY need to fix this. Not you, not your body, not altering the dress they wrongly ordered. They need to get you the dress you are paying for.

My dress was supposed to be ordered with extra length and it mistakenly was not. When they discovered the error, the salon reordered it and absorbed the rush fee. That’s what they should have done for you.

Yea no, how rude of ANYONE to tell you that you need to lose weight. They made the error, accepted that they made an error, so now need to fix it. They know how to rush order dresses, tell them to figure it out. If they try not to, start posting on social media and tag the bridal salon as well as your local news station. Nothing makes a company nervous more than bad PR!

Umm heck to the no! I would not even entertain the idea. It's their fault so they should be reordering the dress RUSH at their own expense and still give you the $400 gift card because of the stress they've caused. It is absolutely ridiculous they even suggest you lose weight to fit into a dress that they ordered incorrectly. I would be on the phone (or there in person) with the salon right when they opened!

Just an update everyone— the boutique is 2 hours from where i live. I went on their instagram to find out they are closed for the holidays and will open back up December 1st. So until then, im out of luck and just have to deal with this stress and weight on my shoulders. They are a small store, not owned by a big corporation so there is no higher up person i can reach out to. Thank you so much for all of the replies. Hopefully they can rush order me a dress, because there is no way i can lose that much weight.

Can you leave a message Emily?!? Write a Facebook post to them, any sort of communication. They deal with brides, there's no way they're going MIA for several weeks...

I'm a pretty laid-back bride, but even this has me livid. Mistakes happen but their "remedy" for this situation is 10,000% unacceptable. Who are they to tell ANYONE to lose weight, especially that much in that amount of time? It's completely unhealthy to lose that much weight that quickly. Honestly, I would ask for a 100% refund, go find another dress I love at a different store, AND I'd make sure my thoughts were known on all their social media sites. Call me over-reacting, but their response is unacceptable.
