Wedding Dress to Small?? Alteration Suggestions???

Nina, on August 6, 2019 at 11:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I recently ordered a dress online from (Cocomelody) and I had it custom made to add additional sleeves and lining to the dress ( the site had decent quality dresses with cheap custom alterations at a low price for a broke college student such as myself not willing to pay over 700$ for a dress) . Since I had it custom made I sent in my measurements. I receive the dress in the mail and why visually I look exactly as I imagine, it doesn't fit around my bum or my shoulders. Like I can't even zip the dress up past my lower back. I can't return the dress since t is custom sized and I want to see if there are any simple alterations suggestions that can be done at a reasonable price before I even attempt battling with the company to fix it.

I would take the dress to a trusted or well-reviewed seamstress to see if they can do a lace-up back. That generally gives you a bit of lee-way in sizing

I would check to make sure they made it to the measurements you sent. If it was their error, and not you mis-measuring or growing, they should be held accountable.

I agree with finding a great seamstress only they would be able to tell you if they can take in the dress, or add a corset to it to give you extra room. Similar thing happen to an associate of mine and she just had them add a corset back gave her the 2.5 inches she needed.

Hey Nina! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

I’m so sorry that your dress didn’t come exactly how you wanted it. The great news is that there is still plenty of time before your wedding to make alterations so that it fits you perfectly.

I think that adding a corset back is a great idea to add some extra space to the bodice. You should start checking out seamstresses in your area that have a great reputation to find someone that you trust to alter your wedding gown!

    What is your dress like?

Hi Nina. Sorry for your dress dilemma. You may have made the right measurements, it’s just lined anything requires a size up. The corset idea is a great way to fix it. Praying it works. Keep us posted.

Hi Nina! Have you spoken to a seamstress about the alterations that you need?
