Wedding Dress Timeline

Hello!

I’m in an interesting situation- long story short, I’m from the USA, currently stuck in Australia due to COVID (☹️) and my wedding is next year early May in the states.
I am wondering when the very last possible minute would be to wedding dress shop. I don’t think I could be happy doing it without my mom with me, as she’s in the states. (I was supposed to head home in June and do wedding things there). International travel might not be lifted from OZ to the USA until December. Sooo I’m just looking for input on when it’ll be too late to shop.
Thank you !

Could you do virtual shopping with your mom? If for no other reason that to pick out the style of your dress? If travel restrictions are in place through December, I fear you won't have enough time to get your wedding dress (holidays, average time for a wedding dress is 6 months, etc.)

You could try dresses on there while face timing her and maybe she could then order the dress here for you?

Wow, sorry to hear that you can't make it back on schedule. It's possible if you don't require a lot of alterations, it would be quicker - but I've heard less than 6 months is very tight.

How would you feel about a Zoom/Skype video call for try ons, as suggested above? There are services that ship to your house (may have to check AUS), or heading to a shop to find your style.
Best of luck finding something you love!

If you want the try-on experience, look for bridal stores that sell dresses off the rack or sample sales. You walk out with your dress the same day!

Depending on where you go you might be fine waiting a bit. When I ordered my dress I had it 4 weeks later. Granted...it was before all this covid stuff, but still.

I honestly suggest going into online places such as Azazie to get your wedding dress, since they have the try-on option at home, and for the most part, it only takes about 1-2 months to get your dress custom made for you, as opposed to the 6-8 standard that most bridal shops abide by.

Unfortunately, choosing this option doesn't give you the help of having a bridal consultant with you, but my friends were a huge help. For me, since I knew all the bridal shops were closed due to the pandemic, I just ordered five wedding dresses to try-on and set up a date where anyone of my bridesmaids who felt comfortable of making it, made it. All in all, it was still a very memorable time, and I wouldn't trade that memory of a lifetime.
If you were to do this option, just set-up a date where you, your mom, and bridesmaids can help you choose your dress for you.
