Wedding dress struggles

Mary, on April 29, 2020 at 7:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
My dress budget is somewhere around 1750 including alteration costs. I’m 5’11 so I’m always really hesitant to order things online for fear of them being too short. Any ladies with similar budgets? Where did y’all buy (online or in person)? Was it easy to find your style and THE dress for that price?

I would definitely recommend trying them on in person! I saw a dress online that I loved and was able to try it on in person at a bridal shop and it did not look good on me! Plus it’s super fun to try on a bunch of different dresses. At your appointment you will tell your bridal consultant your budget and she’ll only pull dresses that are in your price range

My dress was $750 and I bought from David’s Bridal. I’m lucky in that my dress currently needs no alterations, but that could change and I’ll have the money in my budget for it. Wasn’t hard for me to find at all, I was actually drawn to my dress when it was on the hanger, it was the first one I picked out and the second one I tried on. If you do online, make sure you use a website that will send you dresses to try on and send back vs. just ordering blindly so that you can see what you’d be wearing.

I feel like standard dress lengths might cater to your height more actually! Smiley smile My dress was definitely sized for someone taller. Like model height tall (like you) and I had to get it significantly shortened for my 5 foot frame.

David’s bridal/bhld is having some sale for wedding dress under $500, just don’t buy sale sale or final sale, then you can always return or exchange it later.

I was browsing the David’s Bridal site, and many of their dresses can be ordered in Tall.

You can purchase dresses with extra length. It may be an added fee to the retail price of the dress, but worth it. You could try in store.

I ordered two dresses from David's Bridal to try, and they have a free 14 day return policy.

I'm also checking out Cocomelody. You can pay a small fee to have dresses shipped to you for a home try-on.

I got my dress from BHLDN, and I love it. Alterations costs vary widely, but unless you get one of their more expensive dresses AND you need a lot of work done, most of their dresses should be within your budget. I'm not as tall as you are, but my dress was way too long. Also, they have an online styling service, so if you want to buy a dress online (or you have to because of coronavirus), that might be a relatively safe way to go about it.

I'm 5'9 and my sister is 5'10. We both got our dresses from David's Bridal and had no issue with length or staying within the budget which was similar to yours. They're having a sale currently where most dresses are up to 50% off and a lot of the dresses have extra length options. I hope this helps!
