Wedding Dress Storage

Denise, on April 8, 2021 at 2:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

My Dress is HUGE - H - U - G - E and I live with my FH. My parents smoke so their house is out of the question and my Future Inlaw's house is next door to us and he is there ALL the time. Does anyone know of a wedding dress storage service of any kind? Please help.

Do you have a MOH or anyone in your bridal party that could store it for you? Any close friends or family that don't smoke that would be able to?? Exhaust all of those options before you pay to have it stored if you can get it done for free!

Can you trust that he wouldn't peak if it was stored at future in laws? I stored my gown in husband's childhood bedroom at his parents house cuz we didn't have room in our apartment and my parents didn't have the storage either. We're over my in-laws a lot, but I trusted my husband not to look. Not that the dress looks like much of anything on the hanger. I feel like even if he unzipped the bag, all he'd see would be a tiny tidbit. You could see if the store you purchased it from can store it, but they'd probably charge a fee if they offer the service.

I would try to find a garnet bag big enough and keep it in a closet at your home or your in-laws. I live with my fiancé as well & my dress has been in our home for a year now; we postponed and the boutique could not risk the liability of holding dresses during the shut down. They’ll take it back when I go in for alterations in June.

I had a similar problem - giant dress, no storage space! But it actually hasn't taken up as much room as I anticipated - it's inside a garment bag, and even though it's a pretty big ballgown, it fits on a hanger on the back of our spare room door, which we wedge open so it doesn't push the door shut! (I should stress I'm using the internal dress loops, rather than the actual dress straps) Maybe send your fiance out of the house and see how it goes, and have a backup plan just in case it doesn't? I sent mine to golf so I'd have plenty of time to see how it went, and a friend on standby to take it if I couldn't cram it into the bedroom.

If it doesn't work out, your bridal store should be able to make a recommendation about storage!

Edited to add - if he does look, it's really only him that he's hurting. You have to trust he wouldn't do that.

He is a guy...bring into the house while he is not there, put it in closet he never goes in and tell him nothing! He won't even know its been in his house the whole time!

Totally agree with this. Unless it's made out of bacon most men won't be interested enough to go looking for it anyways.

I stored my dress in my own closet in a garment bag. My husband knew exactly where it was but I trusted him not to look. He wanted to be surprised as much (or more) than I wanted him to.

I would store it at your future in-laws and tell them and him not to look at it. If he sneaks a peak he's only ruining it for himself.

Get a garment bag with a larger bottom part (I ordered from Amazon) and the hang it in the back of your closet. It will be fine and your FH won’t peak at it. He won’t even think about it.
My dress had so many layers and was super heavy but I was able to wrangle it all in the garment bag without too much effort. But I do recommend you get a bag that has a larger bottom wide than than the regular bridal bags.

I also live with my FH and will have to store my dress at home. Thankfully my FH really doesn't want to see the dress until the wedding
