Wedding Dress Sizing Panic (size 4 for a size 0 person)

Just ordered Mori Lee 2647. I've always been a double zero, but the store ordered a size four. Late night panic ensued because I tried on a Jasmine dress size two that fit perfect and has a smaller sizing chart than Mori Lee. When the store "measured" me tonight before putting the order in, the measuring tape was super loose and saggy. It almost made it seem like they were getting me to order a size up to get some cash on alterations later. I emailed them just now and asked to speak with someone about this and to get measured one more time. Do you think I should go with the size two? I am 5' 7" 107 pounds. My figure and weight have gone unchanged since high school

If your that worried then have someone measure you again. They do say wedding dresses are typically 2-4 sizes bigger. My dress was 2 sizes bigger than I normally wear

I am a street size 10 and my wedding dress is a 22 and it fits me perfectly except in the straps. If it would ease your mind go back or to a different store and have someone else measure you.

Same thing with me. Usually a size 0-2 and my dress was ordered in a size 4. It's a corset back. When I went to pick up my dress and tried it on. They were debating to reorder me a size 2. They decided not to and to keep the 4 because I had enough room in the 4 when it was tight. But in the size 2 it may have been a little too tight when it came time to lace me up. That's totally normal.

They doubled my size when they ordered the dress and if I didn't want to change the whole cut of the dress because of some dress regret, the only alteration necessary would have been in the boobs and the hem.

It really just depends on the dress/designer. I usually wear a size 2 or 4. Some of the dresses I tried on I needed a 6. But the one I bought I actually was my right size and got a size 4.

I'm a street size 10/12 and my Allure dress is a size 18. Bridal sizes are different. But get re-measured if you feel unsure.

Don't worry! I'm a size a 4 and I bought my Mori Lee dress off the rack in a size 10. I was swimming in it, but it turned out totally fine. Your seamstress should be able to work miracles.

I'm normally a size 0/ 1 and I the dress I got was also a size 0. But in my case I'm 5 ft tall. I think for you one of the main reasons you had to get a bigger size is your height. I think a size 0 is made for someone that is 5'3''ish. Size 2 is someone that is probably about 5'6'' and then 4 is taller. And they probably assumed you will be wearing heels and will need more length. You will probably have to get it taken in but the length will be good. I wouldn't be too worried but if you are that concerned I would go back and have them double check.

Like others said, two sizes up makes sense.

Also, my dress shop showed me my measurements and went through the size chart with me to show me where my measurements fell. Then I had to sign something saying I agreed with the size they ordered. Did they do that with you, or just tell you "you're a four" and moved on? If you're concerned, it wouldn't hurt to get remeasured -- just do it ASAP before they start cutting the dress -- and have them show you their size chart.

Same here! My normal dress size is close to a 2-4, depending on the designer. My dress was ordered in a 10! She calmed me down and explained how Allure sizes are and showed me how she came to her conclusions. I was just slightly larger than an 8, so she suggested the 10 because it's easier to take in a dress like that.

I've noticed the same thing at H&M, though not to that extent. I'm several sizes larger in their clothing than I am anywhere else. Go fig.

Alterations will save your dress if all else fails. I agree that you should go back to be remeasured if it will calm your mind. I had a similar freak out though so I understand. I'm a street size 6 and my dress is a size 12 because of my wide rib cage. I lost 70 lbs. by then and was down to my natural body structure so I was disappointed to say the least. Hence I'll have to take the dress in everywhere else for it to fit correctly. I keep telling myself I'll be beautiful on the day regardless of the size of the dress. You'll be beautiful too!

Here's a conundrum for you all:

Street size 8, dress size 4. Wtf? And yes, the size 4 fits, thankfully.

Yup bridal sizes are way different. I wear a size 16 in jeans and I ordered a size 20 dress. My dress fits amazingly just have to take in the boobs a bit.

Street size 6, bridal 10. Or at least that's the size of my gown. I went with a sample and it fits me freakishly well unaltered (way too long - but here's a pic from my first fitting last Thursday).

If you wouldn't mind, these are my suggestions as it is early in the ordering process.

Find a friend or relative who is comfortable with sewing to take your measurements.

Go to the shop that you ordered your dress and ask if she could show you the size chart - this will have all measurements of chest, waist, hips and length.

Compare your measurements to that chart and look at the size that matches to the largest measurement (we are not perfectly sized in all areas, so allow for that area that measures to the larger size).

Request a change immediately, it may involve a signature - but that signature may save you hundreds in unnecessary alterations.
