Was trying to find my wedding dress size was a mess! I’m usually a size 3 in shorts and small/medium in tops but my dress size!! Oh my I couldn’t zip up the back in a size 6!! So I’m a 8 size... are dress sizes different than your normal wear sizes???

My dress was actually a size smaller than I normally wear... Dress sizes are definitely different than street sizes.

Wedding dresses run very small. I'm normally an 8-10, and I had to order a 16...the sizing chart said I should get an 18 but the staff told me I would be okay with the 16.

Different designers make up their own sizes I swear! But just remember the number on the tag doesn't matter as long as you love it! Usually look for 2 sizes up from your normal dress size but like I said certain designers don't follow anywhere close to that rule.

Formal dresses can be 2-3 sizes larger than your normal clothes it depends on the designer. Your size depends on your specific measurements and then compare it with the designers sizing. Mine i believe is 2 sizes up

Normally I’m. 5. When I got there and told her I wear a 5- she said she would pull an 8. At first I was confused but they fit like a glove !

Yess they are for the most part way off.. I’m a size 2/4 and the sample sizes fit me perfectly! They were 8s, I was so shocked!! But when she took my measurements my waist was 26 inches so that’s how I knew they ran small!

It’s all over the map! I’m a street size 4-6 and tried dresses on from size 10-14. It’s nuts lol

There is no such thing as street sizing, it's actually just vanity sizing. There are no standards in US for sizes, so department stores can pretty much use any measurements they want and label it whatever size. Wedding dresses generally stick to international sizing (true size). The one exception is places like David's Bridal, some of their designers use vanity sizing as well.

So no, the wedding dress designer isn't making you wear a larger size, they don't run small. Your department stores are sizing things smaller to make you feel more confident so you will purchase more.

    It's all about marketing.

Yes, I wear a 10/12 and my dress is an 18. I wanted to cry when the first dress shop put me in a 20. I didn’t even want to go dress shopping afterward.

A lot of dresses go by European sizing. Do you ever shop at H&M? I often have to size up there similarly because they are a European company.

I had the same experience. Except my shop let me pull the samples I wanted to try on, not realizing I was looking at styles fitted through the hips, and I couldn't get them over my hips. I was devastated when I only had a few to try on.... They worked major damage control when they realized, and I bought my dress from them on another day, but FH was so confused when I went home crying. He didn't understand how I could hardly fit into anything when I'm not very big, and genuinely was confused on how girls pick their dresses if they're all so small.

Dress sizes are definitely different than street sizes. I'm about the same size as you in street clothes and my dress ended up being order in a size 10.

My wedding dress ended up being a size 26 and I’m normally a size 18/20. The bridal salon I went to told me not to focus on bridal sizing and just pick something I like. It worked Smiley smile
