Wedding Dress Shopping!

SLY, on January 14, 2021 at 9:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hello everyone!

I've narrowed down three stores that I want to go wedding dress shopping at! My mother lives in Chicago, so having her attend at least the first appointment is really important to me. I want her to be at the very first one in case I find 'the dress' at the first store. We're wanting to go to two shops while she's visiting so that if I don't find one at the first, I may at the second and she'll still be present for that. The third store is just a backup in case both don't work (she won't be able to attend that appointment).

My question is: Should I schedule both shops in the same day? OR Should I schedule one for Saturday, and the other on Sunday? The stores are about an hour away from another (Atlanta area).

TIA!

If you have two days, I would definitely do one per day! Dress shopping can be overwhelming and I can't imagine trying to go through two different shops in one day! And if you they are scheduled for the same day, you may be hesitant to buy a dres from the 1st store without seeing the second store's selection. It's so nice that you will be able to have your mom there with you!

Thanks for the feedback! That's a good suggestion. One store has a 'first sight incentive' where you get money off if you find a dress at your first appointment, so I think I'll go there on Sunday! That way I have the dresses I tried on Saturday already in my head (and phone) to compare to!

Thank you! It'll be nice sine she hasn't been present for any other wedding planning thus far besides phone calls! She wanted me to schedule for May since that's my birthday month, but that puts me at 8 months till the wedding and my anxiety can't take that lol.

I did two in one day and it wasn't bad! The second shop was kind of rushed and huffy, but I wasn't really tired/overwhelmed or anything.

Thank you for your feedback! I toyed around with the idea just because I'd be able to schedule them so far apart, so I wouldn't feel rushed. I do get easily overwhelmed though, so having two in one day with all those dresses might be a bit much for me haha!

I went to three in one day, but in hindsight I would have not done the third. Two would have been no problem, and it keeps things fresh in your mind. The appointments usually last ~90 minutes, so if you do one in the morning, grab some lunch, and then one in the afternoon, it isn't too overwhelming.

Thank you, and that's true. It may come down to what slots each salon is open for!

I did two shops in one day, and it wasn't bad at all! I actually liked it because the dresses from the first shop were still fresh in my mind by the time I went to the second one. I wouldn't do more than two in one day though. Otherwise, visiting one on Saturday and the other one on Sunday should work well too! I like your idea of saving the shop for last that has the discount for buying your dress that day - that way, you will have seen other dresses first and know what to compare them to, just in case you do find your dress at that store. Happy dress shopping!

Thank you for the feedback Lisa! It won't be until March, but I'm super excited! I just emailed the store with the discount incentive. The time/dates they are available will affect when I schedule the next one.

I did find out that one store only allows 2 guests, while the other allows 3, so that's something to think about as well. If I want 3 people at the other store, then it may be best to schedule them one day.

    Thank you!!

My first appointment was one shop, one day. I was a bit overwhelmed, didn’t know what I want, was taken aback by some of the issues I was having (I found virtually anything decorated very itchy, which threw me off as I wasn’t expecting it). A few weeks later I did two shops in one day & it was super overwhelming & exhausting! My first appointment was pretty bad—pushy salespeople, hated all the dresses, plus covid stress— & then at my second I had a better experience but was so tired & overwhelmed I couldn’t make any sort of decision. I ended up going back to that second shop again the next day as a “follow up” & I bought a (completely different) dress then, but at that point felt more well rested! So I think if you do two, bring lots of snacks & water, & maybe build in a break so you can talk a walk or do something completely unrelated to dress shopping.

Thanks for the feedback Jay! Yes, if I do 2 in a day I'll def. spread the appointments far apart enough so we can relax and process the first store before the second.

Thankfully one store only allows 2 guests, the second only allows 3, so I won't have too many opinions combatting with mine. Hopefully that helps me not be so overwhelmed!

I would do different days. While dress shopping is fun it can be a bit overwhelming, so I would take a breather in between.

Thanks for the input, Sarah! Right now it's looking like that's the route I'll take! Hopefully both salons have available times during the same weekend!

I love your thinking with scheduling the first sight incentive store for day 2. That way you'll know what you like to some degree and won't be wondering about what you might not have seen yet! Best of luck!

    Thanks, Brianna!

I just realized that the 'first sight' store is only open on Sundays if you pay a fee, so I'm not sure if that's possible now, but I may be able to see them on Friday and the second store on Saturday!
