Wedding dress shopping

Heather, on May 21, 2019 at 9:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23
There's 14 months until my wedding. How soon before the wedding should I start dress shopping? Would it be too soon if I started dress shopping now with 14 months left to go until the wedding? Thanks in advance.

I recommend you start looking now. You’ll have more options.

ASAP! I bought mine 366 days before my wedding. It depends on your size and where you’re located. I had limited options as a plus bride but my boutique has a great assortment of dresses and I found my perfect dress! I ordered in January and it still hasn’t come in yet.

I bought my dream dress 15 months from my wedding day. Was nervous about regret but it was literally still as perfect as the day I bought it. You can definitely start shopping now, but you don’t have to feel the pressure to buy this far out unless you think you’ve found the “one”!

My wedding is 507 days away and I bought my dress this past weekend. Yes, it’s SUPER early, but I’m glad I did because this particular designer takes a long time to make my dress. It will take at the earliest 7 months to arrive before my first fitting, then alterations, etc. I feel better knowing I have a buffer of time. ❤️

I got my dress at the end of February and my wedding isn't until April 2020. So it's not too early to start looking. I wanted to look early due to knowing the order times. I ended up with an off-the-rack dress, so all I'm doing now is waiting until about July to start my fittings.

Thank you everyone for your input. Glad to know I'm not crazy for wanting to start shopping now (my Mom's like "what's the rush? There's still 14 months until the wedding."). Also, I should have put this in my original post, but some of the reasons I want to start looking now is because I'm really short (4 feet, 9 inches) and I also have a physical disability which causes me mobility issues (I use leg braces and crutches to get around). So, I want to find the perfect dress that works with both my height (or lack thereof lol) and my disability and I don't know if that will be difficult to find.

I bought my dress last month, our wedding is August of 2020. It's up to you, the sooner you do it, the less you have to worry about production taking long, or any other snags along the way. Do what feels right!

I bought my dress in February, I'm not getting married until October 2020. There's a long lead time on ordering them, often several months so I'd start now.

I agree with the other girls- it really depends on your budget and options. I did some window shopping in 4 stores before buying my dress 8 months before the wedding.

I just bought mine 14 months out and I don’t regret it at all. This time of year is when boutiques typically have sample sales so I went (not intending to buy but I found something I loved so I got it!) I would start looking now at least to give yourself enough time if you need to order a size. It can take a few months to come in and for alterations. Good luck!

It took 11 months for my gown to arrive. If you fall in love with one that has a longer delivery period, like mine, you won't have any worries.

I started a year and a half in advance, picked a dress 13 months out, and it’s going to take 4-6 months before I even get it in at the shop I ordered it from

Gorgeous! I love the crystal embellished sleeve. I've pinned a lot of dresses with those. So glad you decided to go shopping, it was meant to be!
