Wedding dress shopping

Mariah, on December 3, 2021 at 5:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I am getting married on May 28, 2023. How far out should I start looking for a wedding dress? I don't want to get one too early, but also not too late. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

ASAP! The reason being is because some stores and business could be experiencing a dress shortage since a lot of women are getting married next year. And it could take a while for them to ship in store if they need to order it online. AND! Alterations shops will be booked as well. So, if anything the sooner the better Smiley smile And depending on your seamstress and what needs to be done, it could take between 3 weeks (the least amount of work that needs to be done) to possibly 3 months. Again this could be longer depending on what needs to be done. My husband's cousin needed to get her dress altered twice because she was losing a lot more weight than she had anticipated. So, I think she had to wait about 3 months total for all her alterations. So, that's another thing to consider.

I would definitely start at least looking online now to get an idea of what styles of dresses you like! I don't think you need to rush to buy one, but I would aim to buy one anywhere from 10-12 months ahead of time, just to leave plenty of time for the dress to arrive and also for alterations.

Hello! Fellow 2023 bride (not until August, though) and I'm planning on getting mine August of 2022.

I'm getting married 9/17/22 and I bought mine in July, they told me it could take anywhere from 6-10 months for it to come in plus alteration time. So I would go about a year out to be on the safe side

My dress took five months to come in so you don't want to wait too long. I would browse styles you like online and put together a Pinterest or something that you can take when you go shopping. Buy the actual dress over this coming summer.

I'm a March 2023 bride and I bought my dress last week!

I didn't expect to find "the one" on the first try but the ladies reassured me it was smarter to buy now than wait because of the current shipping issues and how quickly alteration appointments book up since everyone has shifted their wedding plans. I would maybe start looking online at styles you like and then scout out some bridal boutiques in your area.

I’m getting married January 1st, 2022 and I didn’t get my dress until June 2021! Lucky the dress I fell in love with the only took 4 months, but some others took up to 10!! So definitely go at least 10 - 12 months before the wedding!

No worries lol! I would say to at least stay in the loop with a lot of the bridal boutiques in your area since it's not until 2023. You can do this by subscribing by email or calling to make sure about the dress shortage in their store Smiley smile I would say to at least start browsing around to see what you do and don't like.

I’m getting married February of 2023 and just bought my dress yesterday! I honestly wish I even started a little earlier because my dress is supposed to take 12 months to come in. I say start right away!

I followed the ASAP advice and then my dress came in two weeks after I ordered it 😅 What I would suggest is:

Go shopping as soon as you can, but find out from each salon you plan on visiting what their payment policy is. For my salon, I had to put 60% down on the dress, and the balance had to be paid in full within 60 days of arrival. Most of the time, this is 4-6 months after ordering, but like I said, mine came in 2 weeks later and it was a good thing I already had the money set aside for the full balance of the dress. Make sure that whatever your dress budget is, that you have that full amount already to avoid any potential snags!
