Wedding dress shopping- When to go?

Miranda, on September 11, 2019 at 5:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I’m getting married in September of 2020, but didn’t know when to go look for dresses?

Also, how far in advance should you look for bridesmaid dresses?

I picked my bridesmaid's dresses 14 months out. I picked a color, fabric and length from Azazie and let the girls pick their own dress. It gave them plenty of time to save & think about it. I ordered sample dresses prior to see what the colors looked like in person. I bought my dress 10 months out, but started shopping 12 months out.

I ordered my wedding dress in January (8 months before wedding) and my bridesmaids dresses in April (5 months before wedding).

I'm September 2020 and I ordered my dress this past June. We won't get the MOH dress until this Spring. No bridesmaids.

I shopped for my dress about 10 months in advance, and started talking to my bridesmaids about dresses around the same time, though I didn't tell them to actually order dresses (from Azazie) until about 4.5 months out. Given your date, I'd really consider looking into local boutiques to see if anyone runs black Friday/holiday sales. The shop I got my dress from does a White Friday sale where you can get some really good deals.

So, I’m a year ahead of you, getting married in 2 weeks. It will vary based on what designer you buy (I knew I wanted a specific designer from the other side of the planet so I allowed extra time.) I ordered my Rue De Seine dress in Oct 2018, received it in April 2019, and did my alterations over the summer. Nothing was rushed. My bridesmaids are all choosing any dress they like, so they don’t have the constraints of a traditional bridal shop calendar. The first one bought in January and the last one is still shopping - she just had a baby so we knew she would be a last minute shopper.

A little advice, take it or leave it- get whatever you can do crossed off the list early. The best photographers, HMUAs, entertainment, etc all book close to a year out depending on your area. Getting it done early lets you enjoy the holidays and any family events in the spring (other weddings, graduations, etc) with super low stress Smiley smile Good luck!

I totally agree with pp’s that it’s never too early to start looking. You never know how long it’ll take to find the dress/venue/caterer/photographer. I’m getting married Nov 2020 and already got my dress.

I agree with this post so much. My wedding is October 4th, 2020 and I have my venue, dj, photography, Minister, caterer, and my cake/ cupcakes done.. we don’t have much left honestly. Lol and the venue has a lot of the decor and everything tables chairs so I’m good there.. it’s never to early to plan! I’m sending my save the dates out in November and I’ve been looking at dresses already! Lol my girls know what color and the long flow bottom of the dress is all I want the can pick the top to make the feel as comfortable as possible. But yeah it’s never to early.. I’m just holding off on getting sized because you can only move down two sizes in dresses that would be my only concern. Smiley smile and a lot can change in a year plus time.

    Hi Miranda,

I ordered my wedding dress 7 month before the event. But 2 months before the X day I gained a couple of kilos, so I had to loose weight ASAP. That is why I do not recommend an anticipation...

As for the bridesmaid's dresses I had kind of a difficult situation and had to order them like 3 weeks before the wedding. I must say that Rosewe really saved my wedding...

I bought my wedding dress 14 months out and had my first fitting 10 months out. The bridesmaid dresses were picked and ordered 11 months out.
